Korg M1

The M1 was released in 1988 and was manufactured until 1995, selling an estimated 250,000 units.
Reviewing it for Sound on Sound in 1988, Tony Hastings wrote that it was « destined to be big, very big », with « sensational » sounds and extensive features that outperformed its competitors. It was widely used in popular music and stock music in the late 80s and early 90s. The piano and organ presets were used in 1990s house music, beginning with Madonna's 1990 single « Vogue ».
In 2002, the Sound on Sound journalist Mark Vail wrote that the M1 was the bestselling synthesizer in history, though he noted that Korg had not verified the sales figures. Both Sound and Sound and Fact described it as the most popular synthesizer of all time.Fact attributed the success to its sampling and sequencer features, which allowed musicians to produce entire tracks without a studio before the rise of digital audio workstations.

Sequential Circuits Drumtraks.

The DrumTraks is a very programmable classic drum machine from the eighties. While its electronic drum kit sounds may not be as popular today as the TR-909 or TR-808, the DrumTraks exceeds them with superior editing capabilities. Thirteen drum sounds all with programmable tuning and level control. Extensive editing with copy and paste ability.
There's even a mixer section for individual sounds, six individual outputs, one mono mix output, and cassette in/out for offline memory storage.

Pretty basic and easy programming, record a couple patterns and link them into a song. The DrumTraks can output a 24PPQN clock signal and is also fully MIDI capable. This makes it very easy to use with old analogs and new MIDI synths and sequencers. If your looking for classic eighties electro beats and the vintage instrument that generates them then look no further than the DrumTraks.

Sequential Circuits Prophet-600

A polyphonic analog synthesizer, introduced by Sequential Circuits in 1982. The Prophet-600 was intended to be a lower cost version of the Prophet-5, to compete with the less-expensive polyphonic synths being introduced by Roland, Korg and Akai at that time. Unlike the others, Sequential's approach to creating a less expensive synth was mainly to take advantage of rapidly advancing integrated circuit technology (as well as choosing some less expensive panel control components); accordingly, the Prophet-600 had nearly all of the features of its « big brother » the Prophet-5, plus a few.

Korg Poly-61

The KORG Poly-61 (PS-61) is an analogue programmable polyphonic synthesizer released by Korg in 1982, [1] as a successor to the Polysix. It was notable for being Korg's first largely « knobless » synthesizer - featuring a push-button interface for programming, dispensing with the Polysix's k***s and switches. The Poly-61 also uses digitally-controlled analog oscillators or DCOs (Roland's Juno-6 had made the same leap the previous year), in place of the Polysix's VCOs. The Poly-61 also boasted double the patch memory (64 memory positions versus the Polysix's 32), but did not feature its predecessor's onboard effects.

Yamaha DX7

In the early 1980s, the synthesizer market was dominated by analog synthesizers. FM synthesis, a means of generating sounds via frequency modulation, was developed by John Chowning at Stanford University, California. FM synthesis created brighter, glassier sounds, and could better imitate acoustic sounds such as brass and bells. Yamaha licensed the technology to create the DX7, combining it with very-large-scale integration chips to lower manufacturing costs.

The Roland JX-3P is a synthesizer produced by Roland Corporation of Japan from 1983-1985. The « 3P » in its name refers to « Programmable Preset Polyphonic ».It is notable as one of the company's first synthesizers (along with the Jupiter-6) to incorporate a MIDI interface.

Micromoog (with a gold tooth)

The monophonic Micromoog was designed by Moog Engineer Jim Scott in consultation with Tom Rhea, with electronic refinement input from David Luce, Robert Moog, as a scaled-down, cheaper alternative ($650-$800 market price) to the Minimoog. It was designed to tap into a market of musicians who wanted an introduction to synthesis, but who could not afford the $1,500 Minimoog.

Arp Odyssey MK3

ARP developed the Odyssey as a direct competitor to the Moog Minimoog and an answer to the demand for more affordable, portable, and less complicated « performance » synthesizers.
ARP produced several versions of the Odyssey from 1972 to 1980. In early 2015, Korg reissued the Odyssey in cooperation with the original designer and ARP co-founder, David Friend.
