ILEANA COTRUBAS
09/06/1939-20/08/2026 🖤

🇬🇧 Twenty years ago, almost to the day, I met her.

At the time, I could not have known that this encounter would become one of the defining encounters of my life as a singer.

She has just left us.

She was a woman of rare intensity. Her words could be sharp, her judgement uncompromising, and her standards formidable. She demanded truth, commitment, and absolute honesty — qualities that are not always comfortable to meet, but that our profession requires if we are to become more than merely performers.

She taught me, sometimes with a firmness that left no place to hide, to build the armour we need in this demanding profession — without ever allowing that armour to harden what is most essential in an artist.

For beneath her formidable strength lay a deeply tender heart, and an immense sensitivity. She understood that a voice is not simply something to be trained: it must be inhabited. She nurtured imagination, poetry, vulnerability, and that limitless inner world from which true singing is born.

She challenged me. She demanded more of me. She made me grow.

And twenty years later, I understand even more clearly how profoundly that encounter shaped the singer — and the person — I became.

Some people cross our path.

Others leave an indelible mark upon it.

She was one of those rare people for me.

I am profoundly grateful to have met her. Grateful for her demands, for her uncompromising faith in what music could ask of us, and for everything she awakened in me.

Manfred, my thoughts are with you, with all my heart.

May you know that her voice, her presence, and all that she gave to those she touched will continue to live on in us.

With deepest gratitude, thank you for everything. 🤍

Certaines personnes croisent notre chemin.

✨✨✨Final performance of La Cenerentola tonight! ✨✨✨

What an intense season… ending in 37–38°C (99–100°F)! 🥵
Wish me luck—singing this near-marathon role in this heat is definitely going to be a challenge! 😅

After this final opera performance, I’ll be flying to the PAAX Festival in Mexico in just a few days… I guess I’ll already be a little acclimatized to the Mexican temperatures! 🇲🇽☀️

✨✨✨COMING NEXT : My 7th role of the season… and a very special one ✨✨✨

On July 5, 8 and 11, I will return to Angelina, the title role of La Cenerentola at the Palais Garnier.

This role holds a special place in my heart, as I first performed it on this very stage four years ago. Returning to it today, after all the experiences and growth these years have brought, feels particularly meaningful.

I am also thrilled to reunite with Guillaume Gallienne, an actor and stage director of rare sensitivity, intelligence and refinement, whose artistic vision I deeply admire.

And to think that this will be my 7th role of the season fills me with gratitude.

I can’t wait to step into Angelina’s shoes once again and share this beautiful adventure with audiences. ❤️

So happy to announce my debut in Athens 🇬🇷 at the Greek National Opera, performing the iconic role of Carmen in Carmen by Georges Bizet.

This production, presented at the stunning Greek National Opera, recreates the original 1875 staging of the opera—an extraordinary journey into the roots of this masterpiece.

It also marks my 6th (and penultimate!) opera of the season — what an incredible ride it has been ✨

To meet this iconic character again, in a new city, with a new audience… is something truly special.

Grateful, excited, and ready to tell her story once more 🔥

Excited to share that I’ll be performing the ✨world premiere✨ of Je suis l’idée maîtresse by Manfred Trojahn with the fantastic Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, under the baton of Lionel Bringuier!

Creating a brand-new piece with the composer in the room is an unforgettable experience 🎶

Don’t miss it:
📅 April 18 – Liège
📅 April 19 – Cologne

An autobiographical symphony, Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique evokes a socially unspoken love — the composer’s affection for his nephew ‘Bob’.
