In 1967, Rosa von Praunheim went to “EXPRMNTL” in Knokke-le-Zoute - his first film festival. 🎞🎬

The bubbling ecosystem in which he took part captivated him: he discovered the "brilliant and trashy" films of the American underground, a cinema that he claimed all his life as a major source of influence. 🫧

"It was there that I saw g**s and their erotic dreams on screen for the first time," he wrote in his memoir “50 Jahre pervers”. 📝💫

Today he is known as one of the most influential filmmakers for the q***r community with more than 150 films in his repertoire.

➡ Check out his retrospective from June 18 to August 31 ✨

🔊 Of course we are talking about Rosa von Praunheim✨

In the Context of “Anaesthesia of the Heart”, Goethe-Institut Brussels in collaboration with has curated a retrospective of around twenty films, focusing on humor as a subversive strategy of q***r resistance. 🎞

Together with contemporary q***r intellectual voices, such as icon of q***r-feminist cinema Elfi Mikesch, we will unpack the provocations, ambivalences, and groundbreaking relevance of his work. ⭐🪩

📻 Last but not least in the list of topics under which our cultural programming in 2026/2027 is ENTRAUSCHEN / DeNoise.

Digital technologies are radically challenging our perception of reality. Generative AI shifts categories such as truthfulness, fiction and authorship, creating new aesthetics but also new insecurities.

In 2026/2027, The Goethe-Institut Brussels questions the relationship between art and artificial intelligence, focusing on artistic discourses that develop alternative, resistant and emancipatory visions of the future of AI.

The focus is on changing working conditions, new forms of artistic expression and the role of AI in the age of visual disinformation.
