𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘸 by 𝗠𝗘𝗫𝗔 had its world premiere at Zinnema yesterday. And what a premiere it was!

The collective – founded in a shelter for unhoused people in São Paulo – returns to the festival with a performance in the instantly recognisable aesthetic of reality TV, with cameras capturing every move, live editing, confession-room sessions, and elimination games.

Blurring the lines between reality and fiction, the piece is a sharp, exuberant, and deeply human depiction of a decade-long struggle for housing, visibility, and recognition.

This past week, 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗟𝗲𝗶𝘁𝗲 presented 𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵ó𝘳𝘪𝘢 𝘥𝘰 𝘖𝘭𝘩𝘰 at Kunstenfestivaldesarts, a daring exploration of Georges Bataille's scandalous novella of the same name. She recreates the dark fable as a magical, at times festive, experience where po*******hy becomes a theatrical form through which vital and destructive impulses are examined.

Leite and her cast took the audience on an intense yet deeply touching three-hour journey they will never forget. A miraculous and unmissable piece of theatre. Bravo!

Each year, donations from our 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 help reinforce the mission of the festival by funding a new creation. This vital community supported 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗛𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶’s 𝘜𝘴 this year, which had its captivating premiere in Bozar’s Hall M.

Together our 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 attended the performance and met with the artist afterwards. An amazing night with an amazing group of people. 💙
