Piero Dorazio and Charles Po***ck met in Rome in 1963. They belonged to different generations and different artistic contexts - Dorazio formed in postwar Italian abstraction, Po***ck shaped by the American avant-garde. Charles, the older brother of Jackson Po***ck, had long carved out a practice of his own, one that deserves to be understood on its own terms.

What brought them together was a shared conviction: that colour, light, and spatial relationships were the fundamental questions of painting.

Their friendship lasted thirty years. Po***ck served twice as artist-in-residence at the University of Pennsylvania, at Dorazio’s invitation. They travelled together, exchanged letters, debated ideas. Their correspondence, preserved in both archives, reveals two artists in genuine intellectual dialogue, curious about the same things: Native American cultures, the ethics of communal life, the relationship between art and the world.

In a letter from 1965, Po***ck thanked Dorazio for a small painting brought as a gift: ”We love the little painting you brought us - it already has a special place.”

Ars Belga will presents an exhibition dedicated to their friendship and their work.

Opening 10 September 2026.

CHARLES PO***CK / PIERO DORAZIO

Two painters, two continents, one enduring friendship. From Rome in 1963 to New Mexico’s mesas, Michigan’s studios and beyond, Po***ck and Dorazio spent three decades in dialogue, bound by a shared belief in colour as structure.

This exhibition is made possible in collaboration with the Charlespollock-official and Archivio Piero Dorazio, Milano.

Opening 10 September 2026.

One last escape before September.

Daniel Buren has taken over the Musée des impressionnismes at Giverny. Nearly 100 coloured interventions spread across the gardens and inside the museum’s galleries. His vertical stripes planted in the landscape, framing views, shifting perspectives, in dialogue with Monet’s own obsession with light and repetition.

“Plantations, travaux in situ” runs until 1 November 2026. Worth the detour.

Francis Alÿs arrived in Mexico as an architect, summoned by a Belgian relief mission after the earthquake that destroyed parts of the capital. He stayed. He began walking. He became an artist.

His practice resists summary: video, performance, painting, documentary film - all in service of a single question, asked in different registers across thirty years of work. How does an individual act within a city, a border, a political system that is larger than they are? What does a gesture accomplish when the structure it pushes against does not move?

Francis Alys pushed a block of ice through Mexico City for nine hours until it melted to nothing. He walked the Green Line between Israel and Palestine, trailing green paint. He organized 500 people to move a sand dune in Lima by ten centimetres. He has called his work “a sort of discursive argument composed of episodes, metaphors, or parables.”

A Belgian in Mexico City. His status as an immigrant freed him from his own cultural heritage - or his debt to it. That disjunction is where everything he makes comes from.
