The lecture The Arts of Conviviality: Rethinking How We Live Together in a Technological World brought philosopher Alberto López Cuenca to LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial for a timely reflection on how conviviality can guide new forms of coexistence in technologically mediated societies.

Revisiting Ivan Illich’s concept of conviviality, López Cuenca examined how collaborative, interdependent, and sustainable modes of living can counter the extractive logic of industrial and post‑industrial systems. His talk connected these ideas to Smells like kin, the artistic research by Lea Luka Sikau and Denisa Půbalová in collaboration with scientist Felipe Lombó, which explores fermentation as a multispecies practice and a model for rethinking kinship.

The Studiotopia Jam Pop‑Up Lab at Gdańskie Centrum Sztuki Współczesnej brought together young creatives, researchers, and cultural practitioners for an intensive hands‑on exploration of how art and science can collaboratively imagine more sustainable futures.

Through workshops, rapid prototyping, collective reflection, and playful experimentation, participants tested new ways of thinking and making — from sensory mapping and material exploration to speculative design and collaborative storytelling.

The Jam created a space where ideas moved fast, disciplines blended, and curiosity led the way. The results: fresh perspectives, unexpected connections, and a shared commitment to shaping the Symbiocene — a future built on interdependence between humans, technologies, and the living world.

In a new video released within the STUDIOTOPIA 2 project, John Palmesino (Territorial Agency) and Dr. Alexander Damianos unpack the core ideas behind their project that they are developing within Ars Electronica residency.

They discuss why the original Great Acceleration graphs, once groundbreaking visualisations of humanity’s impact on Earth systems, no longer capture the complexity of today’s planetary dynamics. Their dialogue brings together art, science and environmental governance, offering fresh insight into how we might visualise and understand the Anthropocene today.

The video invites viewers to explore how artistic research can help make global transformations visible and meaningful. Watch the full conversation to dive deeper into their perspectives.

🌊🐟 Understanding how the Mediterranean is changing begins with listening to the stories hidden beneath the surface.

Artist Kyriaki Goni and young scientist Andromachi Gkoulia came together at CYENS to explore how warming waters and shifting migration routes are accelerating the arrival of alien species across the region. Their collaboration blends scientific insight with artistic imagination, making complex ecological data accessible to wider audiences.

Through shared research, field observations and creative dialogue, the duo highlights how climate change reshapes marine life and why public awareness is essential for the future of Mediterranean ecosystems.

How do we understand drought beyond data and reports? 🤔

During the WIP Festival, a two‑day Pop‑Up Lab led by artist Miguel Teodoro invited students to explore Cyprus’ fragile water ecologies through hands‑on fieldwork and creative experimentation.

Participants visited the Akaki Regenerative Farm, collected soil samples, observed ecological traces and learned from local practitioners working directly with the land. Back at the CYENS Thinker Maker Space, they transformed their findings into creative responses that connected scientific insight with embodied experience.

The workshop showed how art and research together can reveal the realities of water scarcity and inspire new ways of thinking about resilience on the island.
