During WiseNight 2026, the Atomium’s Central Sphere brings research, art and science together in one inspiring space.

Meet researchers working in Belgium through the lens of photographer Michiel Devijver and learn more about their research, interests and personal stories.

👨‍🎨Art-Science Installations
Explore works that connect science, technology and artistic practice, with themes ranging from space research and satellites to AI and digital imagery.

🎥 Research Video Compilations
Watch short videos featuring researchers from VUB, ULB and BeWiSe, with special attention to women in science and the many different paths a research career can take.
All activities are accessible to all ages and can be visited throughout the day from 10:00 to 18:00.

WORKSHOPS OUTSIDE THE ATOMIUM 🔬

Ook buiten het Atomium valt er tijdens WiseNight heel wat te ontdekken. Op vrijdag 25 en zaterdag 26 september kan je deelnemen aan interactieve activiteiten voor jong en oud, onderzoekers ontmoeten en zelf experimenteren.

Au-delà de l’Atomium, WiseNight propose aussi de nombreuses activités à découvrir les vendredi 25 et samedi 26 septembre : ateliers interactifs, expériences et rencontres avec des chercheurs.

There’s plenty to discover outside the Atomium during WiseNight on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September, with interactive activities, hands-on experiments and opportunities to meet researchers.

Discover what the food of the future could look and taste like. Prepare spreads with vegetables and legumes and explore how our food choices can benefit both our health and the planet.

Can you always trust what your eyes see? Experiment with light, colours and optical illusions, uncover the secrets of refraction and try to solve the mystery of the black box.

Why the Atomium?

Because if there's one place in Belgium that has always symbolised science, it's this one. The Atomium was built for Expo 58 as a giant model of an iron crystal, magnified 165 billion times. It was meant to showcase a future shaped by science, innovation and progress. Funny enough, it was only supposed to stay up for six months.

⏳Almost 70 years later, it's still here. And for two evenings, it becomes a place where you can meet the people behind today's discoveries.

🕵One detail we especially like: the Atomium was designed by engineer André Waterkeyn, and one of the rooms where our workshops take place is named after him.

It feels like the right place to celebrate curiosity.
