Today, TICK TACK brings Sojourn, Allen-Golder Carpenter’s film, to MINOR ATTRACTIONS in London.

It premiered in Antwerp at TICK TACK during Carpenter’s solo show Sojourn, then travelled to Schinkel Pavillon in Berlin with Joerg Koch / 032c and to Camden Art Centre. Now it returns to London.

On Wednesday, Carpenter performs Streetcorner live at EMBODIED LABOUR, the fair’s sound and performance night at STÜCK.

Tonight, Nik Nowak invites Mala to be the first ever to activate Pressure Chamber.

Mala
Born and raised in South London, Mala is one of the architects of dubstep. With Coki as Digital Mystikz, and with Loefah and Sgt Pokes, he founded DMZ: first a label, from 2005 a dance in Brixton whose flyers invited people to “come meditate on bass weight”. His “Anti War Dub” (2006) became one of the scene’s defining records, later heard in Alfonso Cuarón’s Children of Men.
In 2006 he founded DEEP MEDi Musik, which turns twenty this year. He took his sound to Havana for Mala in Cuba (2012) and to Peru for Mirrors (2016). In 2025 came “Militant Don” with Nigerian MC Magugu, a dub he first tested in Brussels. Its sleeve shows Nik Nowak’s Panzer (2011).

At 21:00 he takes over Nowak’s permanent sound system in the former bomb shelter of The Sundial (Léon Stynen, 1955). Catu Diosis follows at 22:00.

Nik Nowak’s first guest on Pressure Chamber: Catu Diosis.

Catu Atim
The Ugandan DJ, producer and rapper, based between Kampala and Cologne, is one of the defining figures of Nyege Nyege, the Kampala collective that has given East African electronic music an international stage. Her sets move between afro bass, kuduro and gqom, switching genre and tempo. She has played CTM, documenta fifteen and Berghain amongst many others. In 2025 she made her Hakuna Kulala debut with Anyim, music shaped, in the label’s words, “by a dancer’s ear”.

With R3ign Drops she founded Dope Gal, a platform for women artists from Africa and its diaspora, which launched ANYAKA, a festival with an all-female African line-up, in 2024.

On Friday at 22:00 she activates Nowak’s Pressure Chamber in the former bomb shelter of The Sundial (Léon Stynen, 1955).

Nik Nowak’s The Sound of the Multitude (2023) turns the emblem of global trade into a monolithic mobile sound sculpture: an eight-tonne, multi-channel horn system built into a shipping container. What it plays comes from outside. 

Through an open call, people upload field recordings, spoken word, music and experiments, and Nowak builds the programme from what comes in. The work uses the Multitude “as an amplifier and instrument”. It premiered in 2023 in a pedestrian underpass beneath a bridge in Mülheim an der Ruhr, for Ruhr Ding: Schlaf. 

On Friday, that logic moves into The Sundial (Léon Stynen, 1955). From 19:00, Pressure Chamber plays sounds sent in by the artists of The Illegal Club. At 21:00, Nowak invites 2 secret guests to activate the system, this time in the former bomb shelter below TICK TACK.

The Illegal Club: announcing the final round of artists — III / III

For its opening, The Illegal Club extends from the shelter to the entire building. On the ground floor and mezzanine, more than 60 artists living and working in Belgium each show a studio work made off the record: an experiment, an early work, a sidetrack from the main line of a practice.

Nik Nowak’s The Mantis (2019) is a two-tonne mobile sound sculpture. It grew out of the loudspeaker war at the Berlin Wall (1961–65), when East and West aimed propaganda at each other through sound systems built to drown each other out. At CTM Festival 2019 in Halle am Berghain, Nowak activated it live with Kode9 and Infinite Livez; later it faced his Panzer at KINDL, Berlin.

In Antwerp, Nowak is now building The Illegal Club’s Pressure Chamber in TICK TACK’s basement, the former bomb shelter of The Sundial (Léon Stynen, 1955). Built to withstand a pressure wave, the shelter will soon hold a system that produces one.
