Untill Saturday on CINEMA TICK TACK: For Your Own Good, a new video work developed by Benjamin Francis.

Benjamin Francis (SR/NL,1996) is a visual artist with a keen interest in body and space. Francis examines debatable forms of linguistic mistakes or “dirty” environments, which are subject to human control. It is done by exploring ways of subverting predominant authoritarian systems of knowledge and the dichotomy between right and wrong, good and bad. Francis’s iterative research projects consist of installations, videos, sculptures and props that sometimes function
as the stage for performances. For this post, we bring together the current solo screening with a selection of earlier works and installation views.

Happy Eclipse. TICK TACK TICK..

Facts: TICK TACK is housed in the brutalist complex ‘De Zonnewijzer’ (The Sundial), a 1955 key work by architect Léon Stynen. The TICK TACK program is dual. By day, we present new site-specific productions.

At sunset, the window transforms into a projection screen under the name CINEMA TICK TACK, an exclusive platform for digital and moving image works.

Our website indicates and counts down to the Sunset, and when reached, the space and website transform into CINEMA TICK TACK mode.

As a result, both day and night, TT constantly challenges the physical and mental boundaries between day and night, inside and out.

Coming up: For Your Own Good, a new video work developed by Benjamin Francis (SR/NL, 1996) on CINEMA TICK TACK.

For Your Own Good explores how ideas surrounding care and hygiene function as mechanisms of social control within capitalist systems. The work draws on the ideas of transformation by the Russian philosopher George Gurdjieff, and shows how alignment and obedience are cultivated under the guise of care. This creates a dark, absurd reflection on modern (corporate) life.
