Eva Steynen Gallery

Eva Steynen Gallery Distinguishes itself by rather curatorial shows often with a museal character. The purpose is to show and promote contemporary art.

The gallery works closely with small roster of artists, hosting an annual program of solo shows, performances, artist editions, salons and thematic group shows. 'A nice place to make discoveries'

Eva Steynen.Deviation(s) was founded in 2013. Situated in the upcoming east-side of Antwerp, on the ground floor of a 19th century mansion with a garden, the gallery is known as a nice place to make dis

coveries. Eva Steynen works closely with a small group of mid-career and emerging artists, Belgian based and international, and presents an annual program of solo shows, performances, artist editions, salons and thematic group projects. The visitor is invited to discover, reflect and connect. After having realized various exhibition projects as a nomadic independent curator in Antwerp, Eva Steynen established the gallery in her parental home. Next to the solo shows, the rather curatorial projects evolve from a philosophical enquiry and a curiosity for aspects of the event in the artist’s act. Building a sustainable trust-based relation between artists and gallerist, the latter being a care-taker for the arts, the purpose is 'to grow well together'. To aim and think together by organizing and creating a connection between artists, gallery, collectors, curators and art lovers. The commercial aspects of a gallery may never invade the artistic process, hence Eva Steynen.Deviation(s) distinguishes itself by rather risk-taking and curatorial shows often with a museal character. Eva Steynen.Deviation(s) is a member of Antwerp Art and co-organiser of BORGER, a dynamic group of galleries and art institutions in the north and east district of Antwerp. Represented artists: Marie Julia Bollansée, Francis Denys, Benoît Félix, Laure Forêt, Aurélie Gravas, Nick Hullegie, Fred Michiels, Marieke Van Wuytswinkel.

NEL BONTE (b.1986)
Nel Bonte's sculptures bring together personal memories, everyday objects, and architectural forms in a playful exploration of scale, material, and perception. Fragments of familiar objects are enlarged, reduced, transformed, and assembled into new sculptural constellations.
Balancing organic forms with minimal structures, her works move between childhood memories, collective imagination, and contemporary sculpture. Through ceramics and other materials, Bonte creates hybrid forms that explore vulnerability, play, and the symbolic power of objects.

Summer closing - viewing room

LAURENCE PLUMIER

Laurence Plumier (b. 1968, Liège) creates a distinctive visual world populated by colourful masked figures, poetic characters, and textile forms. Drawing inspiration from fashion, cinema, subcultures, and fairy tales, her work explores the transformative power of clothing and identity.
Through drawing, paper works, and sculptural crochet pieces, Plumier develops a highly personal
visual language in which thread, colour, and texture become both image and object.
Her works balance humour, poetry, and craftsmanship while giving shape to imagined figures and narratives.

WANNES LECOMPTE

In a world of constant images, Wannes Lecompte (b. 1979) creates paintings that ask us to slow down. His
works reveal themselves gradually, through gestures, rhythms, and the movement of the body
across the canvas.

For Lecompte, painting is about painting itself: colour, direction, and the physical act of making.
His canvases invite us to become attentive viewers and to experience painting as a space of time,
movement, and presence.
