One of the things I love most about portrait painting is that skin isn’t the colour we think it is.

Up close, there are bright pinks, touches of purple and all sorts of colours that seem impossible. Step back, and somehow they become a face.

It’s still one of my favourite things to discover every time I paint a portrait. ❤️

I’ve been quiet here for a while. Life sometimes asks us to put things down for a moment, and over the past few months that’s what I’ve needed to do.

But the studio never fell completely silent.
There are new paintings and some beautiful things coming up that I’m looking forward to sharing with you. For now, here’s a small detail from one of my new flower paintings.
