In another attempt at bending towards polyvalent
socio-economic exhibition systems, selling off
artistic practices and outsourcing performance,
WePaint* was invited to activate (or paint)
the exhibition space.

*WePaint is a collaborative socio-economic
structure, offering painting services
to the blank canvas.

Under threat, as possible fall backs of the artist-run space Lichtekooi, as well as the spatial host (being M HKA’s inbox: an exhibition space designated to host monthly intimate pop-up presentations), found themselves in decreasing economic and political positions. winnie t was invited to re-act with hope.

Their first solo exhibition Polyvalent Hospitality Agency transformed M HKA’s inbox into an installation composed of found objects, cardboard boxes, marketing-esque rebranding proposals in the shape of a donut (aka decentralized pyramid scheme) and a softer floor for people to feel invited to perform along the activation of the space.

An agency to act on agency: to overcome the fall-back of the formerly named art spaces, to find new roads and possibilities, winnie was invited to sell-out their solo-opportunity to other organizations by inviting them in respectively 4 activations in 4 weeks, re-representing the exhibition by rebranding every activation within the exhibition with a different title.

Activation 1 — Total Sell-Out Box Office

Their first attempt at bending towards the polyvalent
socio-economic situation, resulted in a performative
speech promoting Lichtekooi’s Lichtekooi WebShop.
Encouraging the audience to buy an item on the
off-space’s DIY support system, enables the
continuation of the non-profit to stay true to curation
outside the demand of the art-marketing system.

Lichtekooi is proud to be one of the co-producers of this project by Sietske Van Aerde, currently on view at the Roger Raveel Museum as part of the 10th Biennial of Painting until 18 October!

In the two silent video works “Mestra’s” and “Godin der zee”, Van Aerde explores the transformation of the body through costume, body paint and performance. “Godin der zee” takes inspiration from a watercolour by Léon Spilliaert and features Clara, Lisa and Parel Spillaert.

Great news for Lichtekooi ❣️

We are very happy (and relieved) to share that Lichtekooi Artspace has been granted project funding from the Flemish Government!

This means we can continue our programme for another year and provides us with the possibility of applying for structural funding in December of 2026.

We’d like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who supported us through the difficult first half of 2026 — through donations, visits, collaborations, kind words of encouragement, and solidarity. It’s been truly amazing and heartwarming to see so many of you show up for Lichtekooi, Your support and engagement made a real difference and helped our organization bridge an uncertain moment.

We’re looking forward to the coming period and to welcoming you back at Lichtekooi this autumn with a new programme!
