Tashattot.collective

Tashattot.collective a collective that support artists & cultural practitioners from the SWANA region scattered in Europe.

Tashattot (Arabic for dispersion) is an art collective based in Belgium dedicated to supporting visual artists, musicians, film makers and cultural practitioners at large, originally from the SWANA region and currently “dispersed” in Europe. The collective aims at creating opportunities, collaborations, commissions and securing funding for these expatriate artists regardless of their ethnicities,

gender identities or religions. The word tashattot and its English equivalents scattering/dispersion, define the collective in both the literal sense of the word (pertaining to the description of the individuals scattered around the world, far from their homelands), as well as its metaphorical sense which relates to the scattering and dispersion of ideas and ways of thinking, as the word in Arabic is oftentimes used to describe the wandering of the thoughts (tashattot al afkar or scattered thoughts). Tashattot is a work in progress and a newly launched collective with a fluid and evolving set of actions. It currently is and will always remain open to new ideas and experiences; continuously building on lessons learned and with practice. The collective strongly believes in the efficiency of open discussions, as the only way to grow and better address SWANA expat artists needs and aspirations, it therefore remains open to reviews, critiques, evaluations or any opinions related to its mechanisms.

FOMU x Tashattot Takeover

FOMU (Photo Museum Antwerp) has invited Tashattot Collective to take over the museum’s first floor to present the new exhibition Tenderly There.

Through a photographic lens, Tenderly There shows how q***r people have positioned, explored, rethought and affirmed their love and intimacy. The exhibition showcases archival photographs acquired from the Arab Image Foundation collection next to contemporary works by artists Jeanne et Moreau (Lara Tabet & Randa Mirza), Kader Attia, and Mohamad Abdouni. The contrast between archives and the present moment allows for a voyage through time, encapsulating daily activities and intimate moments.

Exhibition opening: March 19th at 7:45pm
Ongoing until 11 PM: Drinks and bites at the FOMU café
Address: Waalsekaai 47, 2000 Antwerpen

Last Thursday on Microwave radio!

A set by the coolest June as mixing mutant techno, breaks and bass.

June is a Beirut-based synthesist and DJ. His practice moves between club-oriented work,
experimental electronics, and music for film, theater, and installation. Working between club
pressure and exploratory drift, rooted in deep listening, digging and auditory experience with an
instinct long-form storytelling.
His approach to djing favors atmosphere, using texture and rupture in meticulous shape.
Drawing from years of working within synthesis, custom electronics and sound design, he treats
the booth as an extension of live composition blending pacing and mood with precision, and
approaches the decks as an open system responsive to space, system, and collective attention.
As the co-founder of Frequent Defect, a Beirut-based artist collective, June’s practice was
shaped by contexts of risk, listening, and adaptability carrying forward.

For the second year in a row, Tashattot invites three Brussels-based musicians to create together for a period of two months with a goal to perform at the Ancienne Belgique stage at the end of the residency.

We are happy to present the three participating musicians in this year’s edition of the Sonic Session Residency, Amine Zaoui (IM’IN), Hala El Moussawi, and Hussein Rassim.

IM’IN is a Moroccan DJ/producer based between Strasbourg and Brussels. He developed his passion for music by playing the viola in an Andalusian music association. Over time, his interests expanded to include electronic music. Whether DJing or performing live, his artistic offerings cover a wide range of styles, from techno to breakbeat, all infused with melodic and percussive influences from SWANA music.

Hala El Moussawi (Quarter Tone) is a singer, composer, and sound artist working at the intersection of voice, research, and storytelling. Drawing on quarter tones as both a musical and conceptual tool, her work references Arabic maqamat while overlapping states of grief, resistance, belonging, and displacement. After years of academic research on trajectories and stories of migration, she approaches music as a form of research, using vocal experimentation, field recordings, and sonic imagination to translate personal and collective memory into sound.

Hussein Rassim is an Iraqi musician based in Brussels and specializing in the oud (oriental lute). He blends traditional oriental music with contemporary influences and performs in several musical projects. He is currently a member of the group Jaqâmaz, a collective that fuses jazz, Arabic maqām, and world music, as well as the group Tarab Machine, which reinterprets traditional Iraqi songs with rock and pop influences.

Stay tuned for more information about the concert coming soon! 🥰

Very excited to share these two special acts with you!
For the Art et Résistance Festival happening on the weekend of November 28th 2025, Tashattot invites two special acts to perform on Saturday November 29th at La Maison des Cultures Molenbeek.

Salwa Jaradat & SAWT
Salwa Jaradat and SAWT come together in an upcoming collaboration merging Salwa’s evocative Arabic vocal heritage with SAWT’s ambient and textural soundscapes. The project unfolds as a sonic dialogue between voice and atmosphere, where ancestral melodies meet contemporary electronic sensibilities.

YUNIS
Opera for 1000 Crows is a performative music piece that intertwines live electronics, haunting cello, visceral vocals, and the playful innocence of toys to explore the fragile space between life and death. Rooted in a funeral dance ritual from Upper Egypt and Delta villages, the piece draws an uncanny parallel between a mourning tradition and a children’s street game.
It is an opera for limping bodies and wandering souls, a space where crows guide us through the echoes of past and future, where sorrow and joy hold mirrors to one another.

Doors open: 20h / Free entrance / Limited Capacity! / Rue Mommaerts 4, 1080 Bruxelles

Pilar and Tashattot Collective join forces in hosting three special acts in an upcoming concert at Pilar Building on November 6th. The groups Pr******te (USA), Ghadr (LB) and supporting act Maltash (LB) bring you music ranging from electronic experimental to post-punk and industrial Arabic rock.

Formed in 2020 in Dearborn, Michigan, Pr******te is an experimental post-punk and Arab rock band. The band’s debut album, Attempted Martyr, was written in the midst of global and personal turmoil, capturing the zeitgeist of a world unraveling. A loose concept record, it chronicles the rise and fall of a doomed zealot whose pursuit of holy vengeance spirals into a psychotic o**y of violence, greed, and lust.

On Ghadr, Sandy Chamoun, Anthony Sahyoun and Jad Atoui play with chaos. Built on group improvisation, surges of coruscating electronics and distortion meld with vocals that, while stemming from a background in classical Arabic singing, seek to reroute tradition.

Maltash (Joseph Jadam) is a Lebanese musician based in Brussels. He explores the fusion between traditional Arabic music, North African pop, and darker genres such as psychedelic rock, stoner, darkwave, and industrial music. His art reflects a commitment to blending his cultural roots with dark and atmospheric soundscapes, creating a space where familiar melodies meet rough and experimental tones.
