So close, yet still so far.

This is the final w.i.p. post of my current realistic pencildrawing. As it stands, I'm really happy with the skin texture (some layers still needed on the forehead) but the hair is really taking me a long time to draw.
Especially the left part, which is completely in shadow in the reference, is a trying bit. I need it to be dark without falling flat and I can't see the direction it curves on the reference. So i'm making it up as I go along.

After the hair is done, all that's left is darkening the background to make the highlights pop like there is no tomorrow.

For this drawing, I am using to sets of pencils. The 9000 series and the Pitt Matt on top of it.

Wip of my current drawing.

Working on the base layers atm, but with this drawing i'm trying to push the realism a but further. Insofar the paper will allow me to, that is.

Still undecided on the title, but i'm playing around with the idea of making this part of a series of realistic portraits with this kinda regal or ethereal vibe. 'Gods & Monsters' is the working title of this series, but who knows where the process will take me. It might not be the first time i flip the script.

This was 2025.

It's been a special year, hasn't it? What started as another run-of-the-mill year, soon became a clusterf*ck of epic proportions. But misery breeds creativity, and thus those first eight months of 2025 brought me my best drawings to date.

From the first two in my broken statues series, From Our Ruins.

To the sensual Privat Devotion.

And that awesome Marilyn collab with@my_realisticdrawings

Or my best drawing to date with TTPD (the soundtrack during all those months).

Don't ask me to pick my favourite, but you can sure pick yours. Leave it in the comments!

2025 also saw me doing video - and despite me being awkward as hell people seem to dig it - and not to forget the launch of my website.

Next to these drawings, this year also saw me abandon projects which may or may not be picked up later. And there are still two yet to be revealed as soon as I get the green light from their new owners.

All this was packed in the first half, cause then I had the brilliant idea of turning my life around by starting a new job and going back to school. Hence this account going into hibernation as I've got no time to draw till the end of spring. So don't run away just yet. I've only just started.

Wishing you all the best for the new year. And 2025... byyeeee, won't miss ya.

give this year the biggest send-off by liking, sharing and saving this post, lest we not forget that beauty grows between cracks, and we're all tortured poets deep down.

and should you feel so inclined, you can leave something in my tipjar @ buymeacoffee.com/nickvreys Cause I really like coffee and only enough of it will get me through till next summer.

You're IT! (wip)

Progress post of my seasonal Halloween drawing of Pennywise the clown from Stephen King's novel It and the new show Welcome To Derry.

This version of Pennywise is based on the character as played by in the most recent adaptations.

It's slow going due to life, hence why it's only a wip and not a finished drawing. But be sure to follow me and keep an eye on my stories for drawing updates on everyone's favorite clown.

the beautiful breaking

I am beyond honoured to announce that From Our Ruins, pt.1 has won the Artistic Recognition award in the 2025 Drawing competition by
This drawing packs a lot of meaning for me. Not only was this my first ever original concept, but it's also telling a personal story. So for it to be recognised and awarded, I can only be grateful.

Thank you, Art&Color365 for seeing something in my work, and thank you to all who shared and supported this drawing from day one.

the tortured poets department

Back in 2023, i had the brilliant idea of making a drawing from every Taylor Swift era. Going chronologically, i stranded after Lover and didn't get 'round to folklore and beyond. Earlier this year, however, i figured it was not only time to continue, but to redo it all. Cause in all honesty, most of my drawings from back then were crap and i'm better now. And i wanted to do these drawings justice.
Rather than starting back with debut, i just went with what felt right, which was the tortured poets department.

It wasn't easy choosing the right reference for this project, as there were a lot of interesting shots, but in the end i landed on this close-up. While it took me a heaping 60+ hours, the details i was able to pour into this were a joy, and i hope you can see them in the close-up shots i added. From the skin texture, to the hair, they pushed my abilities to their limits. And while this is no perfect drawing and i still messed up in parts, i think i did this album proud with this drawing.
And i'm quite certain that in due time, i'll revisit this album and do another drawing of it. It won't be anytime soon, but you may get a pt2 someday.

and if you ask my expert opinion, yes ttpd is her best work to date and no, it's not too long. just putting the facts out there.

what's the next era i should tackle? leave a comment and i might just go with marjorie - i mean the majority.

if you like this drawing, feel free to share it! in fact, it would be super cool if y'all shared it into oblivion till taylor throws me a like or a comment 🩶 (she won't, but nothing ventured nothing gained)

and should you feel so inclined, you can leave something in my tipjar @ buymeacoffee.com/nickvreys Cause I really like coffee and this drawing had lots of caffeinated late nights, wailing my goodbyes to London for three fortnights.

the tortured poets department, pt.1 (wip)

here is another update on my Taylor Swift drawing. It's slow going since it's a highly detailed drawing, but i feel it'll be worth every minute and every pencil stroke i poured into this.
all the while playing her music and every so often pretending i'm on stage at my very own eras tour, because why not.

Thank you to all who saw the beauty between her cracks, the promise in her fissures and the healing in her brokenness.
