Puppet is a perpetual peer of the people. Children stop crying generously and smile heavenly receipt of puppet, and there is no ethnicity, tribe, religious group or cast which acts adversely to this lovely truth. The human-aged puppet has been used as a media of recreation and folklore-education since the very first stage of human civi
lization. According to Historical evidences and legends, Indian sub-continent is the embryonic and the flourishing land of Puppet Theatre. By publishing several researches and publications we have proved that Bangladesh has a thousand-year-history of Puppet Theatre. Though, this precious art of gambol circulation has never been considered as an organic part of dance but, it is known as ‘Puppet Show’ in this region. In terms of organic arts, presentation, craftsmanship etc., it is completely an enriched branch of theatre and we call it ‘Puppet Theatre’. The condition of puppet theatre in Bangladesh is very substandard, i. Though, more than fifty names of traditional Puppet Theatre groups are listed, but ten-twelve are active in reality. All the active groups use old instruments to present some segments of conversation, witticisms, songs, etc. Again, this limited exhibition is limited to particular fairs in a few village areas and few urban areas. To sustain and to enrich the Traditional Puppet Theatre and to use its extravagant constructive power of possibilities the “PUPPET THEATRE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTRE OF BANGLADESH” has created. Regenerating the ways of puppet making, story selection, starring proficiency, presenting methods, etc., I dream to capacitate the traditional ‘Sting Puppet’ with the changes of time by keeping the organic art and presentation original. We strongly support to keep ‘pata-cotar’ flute of puppet language original. Usage and eschew of several attainable elements of our outskirts have made numerous puppet and subjects through various observation. That is why we call it ‘puppet theatre of research’. Our vision is to create professional puppet theatre group by organizing regular exhibition. We believe that we will be able to implement the immense power of selected and modernize puppet theatre in developing child-education, child-mentality, education of physically challenged people, pathology, awareness, folklore-education, entertainment etc. We also believe that ‘puppet theatre is one of the medias of transforming all impossible into possible’. We wish that puppets will be the citizens of child’s imagination. Prosodic movement and language will create children’s possible world of impossibilities. Audience love will be our great inspiration.
