A beautiful film from the 2nd phase of the Mangpli Project. Started in 2022, we’re still living this moment, and there’s a long way to go before we can share it all with you.

Ruwang Collective Arts has finally begun a journey with Indigenous youth who are filmmakers, vloggers, podcasters, and media enthusiasts to produce a series of documentary films, video blogs, and podcasts.

As the first phase of this program, we conducted a three-day residential media workshop with 19 Indigenous youths from the Chak, Chakma, Khumi, Manipuri, Marma, Mro, Munda, Tanchangya, and Tripura across Bangladesh. The workshop was held in Rangamati in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The workshop sessions focused on climate change, creating vlogs, and documentary filmmaking. During the program, Ruwang Collective Arts also shared its ongoing projects and future plans with the 19 fellows, creating space for learning, exchange, and collaboration.

We sincerely thank Cultural Survival for giving us the opportunity to be part of the Indigenous Community Media Grant 2025.

Friends in Chittagong city!
Our documentary film will be screened on the opening day of the Chattogram International Documentary Film Festival (CIDFF) on 8 January 2026. Hope to see you there!

Ubogeet: The Unsung Tale and Song
2025; Bangladesh
23 Minutes
Director: Santua Tripura, Nidhi Chakma
Producer: Santua Tripura
Screening Date & Time:08 Jan 2026, 7.45 pm

Synopsis: Set in the remote valleys of Rangamati in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, this documentary
follows six Chakma Indigenous folk song practitioners: Anundibala Chakma, Godabi Chakma, Indu
Chakma, Gunobala Chakma, Jalodhar Chakma and Bimol Chakma. Through layered storytelling and
striking visuals, the film offers an intimate portrait of their lived experiences, revealing the enduring
bond between community and song.
At its heart, the documentary explores Ubogeet, a form of Chakma folk song that embodies resilience,
identity and collective memory. Once a vibrant cultural tradition, Ubogeet now stands on the verge of
fading. Alongside the struggle to preserve their songs, the singers confront wider social challenges,
including patriarchy, displacement, economic hardship and generational disconnection. The film
captures how, despite these pressures, their voices continue to carry emotional truths and cultural
heritage across generations.

We, the Ruwang Collective, are deeply concerned about the accelerating impacts of climate change and are committed to restoring the bond between humans and nature. The Munda Indigenous in coastal Sundarbans lives on the frontline of this crisis. Their identity and culture are increasingly endangered as climate change forces migration and strengthens the dominance of the majority community.
This visual report presents their stories of resilience, showing how they live, face daily challenges, and how the youth are taking meaningful steps to protect their community and future. Our team worked as the media and communication unit in a collaborative project carried out by the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP), Hill Resource Centre (HRC), Back to the Roots, and HP.
