Jolputul Puppet started their journey in 2005, with an informal puppetry in a very in-house birthday celebration of an underprivileged child. Then after a few more informal shows in different places, the team did their first corporate show in Deshal’s Boishakhi celebration program, with the story ‘Ke age? (Who’s first?)’ , based on the popular Aesop story of the hare and the tortoise. It started w
ith four members and now Jolputul Puppet do not only have many members but also different active panels, under which the members are assigned with tasks of their expertise. Jolputul’s panels include directors, writers, voice artists, musician, puppet and set designer and makers, animator and editor, and puppeteers. The current team members are: Saiful Islam Jarnal, Al-Amin Khandaker, Raihan Ahmed Rafi, Shahriar Shaon, Rifat Ahmed Nobel, Jesmin Jahan Jhuma, Mohammad Rafiq, Azmain Azad Katha, ABS Xem, Prajna Tasnuva Rubayyat, Chetona Rahman Vasha, Naeemi Nafsin, Hashnat Ripon, Mithun, Sushanta, Tanmoy Nazmul Ahmed and more. The traditional childhood game of playing dolls is what inspires Jolputul Puppet to conceive and develop methods of making puppets in an easy and ‘anyone can make’ manner. The materials ranges from much available local resources and products like balls, clothes, socks, paper etc. to wastage materials like plastic bottles, ragged clothes, used papers to even dried tree leaves! The puppets are given traditional looks so that they can represent the culture and many of them are very easy even for the kids to make and play themselves. Using local resources, Jolputul puppet makes different types of puppets such as-
Socks puppets
Stick puppets
Finger puppets
Shadow puppets
Hand puppets
