Sharing the documentary film WHEN MY SLEEPING DRAGON WOKE with my classmates during Dartmouth College Reunion Weekend. What a great screening and talkback moderated by my fellow alumna and bestie Laurel Richie - former Chair of The Board of Trustees and current Chair of the Hopkins Center Board of Advisors. It was a packed house at Loew Auditorium. We had a wide ranging discussion about my story, other people’s stories, life, art, legacy, second and third acts later in life… and we laughed. A lot!🥹💚 Special shoutout to our fantastic Reunion Chairs and my classmates for showing up and making me feel so embraced. Keep telling those stories!🥹💚

What happens when you bring 90 senior executives in entertainment together at the iconic Amazon MGM StudiosAmazon MGM Studios in Culver City? Magic!

On May 8th I had the pleasure of being the closing speaker at ‘Spotlight’, Amazon's executive leadership summit for entertainment. I did a 15 minute performance piece from Feeding the Dragon and then had a chat, moderated by the amazing Elana Mandelup followed by a lively Q&A.

The conversations were energizing, and collaborating with brilliant minds from across Amazon and the greater entertainment industry left me truly inspired, and committed to the idea that ALL of our stories matter. We must continue to tell them. Own them and share them. They are vital to maintaining connection. They open us up to new ways of seeing the world. Stories expand our vision.

Looking forward to seeing how these discussions shape the next chapter of the industry.

Special thanks to Erica Lerro, Carol Jimenez Vargas, Kate Navin &Elana Mandelup

Well this is cool. The story of the little-girl-who-lived-in-the-library continues to be shared.🙏🏾📚📖

And more coming soon....
"...Her show, “Feeding the Dragon,” in which she starred Off Broadway in 2018, drew its title from her childhood memories of watching her father, George King Washington, shovel coal into the St. Agnes furnace.

She is now writing a children’s book on the subject for Scholastic."

Family quarters were built in dozens of New York City branches for custodians with the grueling job of stoking the coal-fired furnaces.

Big shout out of congrats to my friend and fellow MacDowell Fellow ! Write ON!!✍🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🫶🏾 Repost from Join us in wishing author and MacDowell Fellow Lesa Cline-Ransome/ (23) a huge congratulations for winning not only a Newbery Honor for her MacDowell-supported novel in verse, ONE BIG OPEN SKY, but a Coretta Scott King Author Honor as well!

Announced at the ’s 2025 Youth Media Awards, the accolades are the latest in a series of honors for the middle grade novel, which Cline-Ransome was revising in MacDowell’s Van Zorn Studio in the summer of 2023.

Set in 1879, ONE BIG OPEN SKY () explores the history of the Black homesteader movement through an intergenerational story, following three women on a perilous wagon journey westward.

Writing in the , critic Tillet opened her praise of the novel with a passage from MacDowell Fellow and board chair ’s (3x 16-21) book EXODUSTERS: Black migration to Kansas after Reconstruction, the subject of which Cline-Ransome “vividly” captures in her new book with “a mix of richly textured description and vibrant dialogue.”

Cline-Ransome is pictured on the forested grounds of MacDowell in July 2023 in the first image, and in the second, at work inside our Van Zorn Studio, which we renamed from Kirby Studio that month (📷: ).
