In respectful remembrance of the legendary photographer Raghu Rai, who passed away today, 26 April.
Raghu Rai is one of the most influential photographers of the Indian subcontinent, known for his powerful documentary work spanning decades of history, politics, and human life.
A protégé of Henri Cartier-Bresson, he brought a deeply human and intimate lens to photojournalism - capturing moments that are both historically significant and emotionally profound. From war and political movements to everyday life, his images are marked by honesty, sensitivity, and a strong narrative presence.
His work on the Bangladesh Liberation War remains especially significant, preserving some of the most enduring visual records of that time. One of his important exhibitions, “Bangladesh: The Price of Freedom,” was presented by Bengal Foundation in 2012, highlighting his deep engagement with the country’s history and identity.
Raghu Rai’s legacy lives on through images that continue to educate, move, and remind us of the enduring power of witnessing.
