On May 14, 2026, the 25th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students Preliminary round in in Bangladesh was successfully held at the Auditorium of the International Mother Language Institute. The event was guided by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, Ministry of Education of China, hosted by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangladesh, organized by the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka, and co-organized by the Confucius Institute at North South University, the Shanto Mariam–Honghe Confucius Classroom, and the International Mother Language Institute.
The event was graced by the presence of H.E. Mr. Yao Wen, Ambassador of China to Bangladesh, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ashaduzzaman, Director of the International Mother Language Institute, Prof. Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Treasurer of University of Dhaka, Prof. Nasar U. Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the North South University, Prof. Dr. MD Farid Uddin Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Rajshahi, directors of Confucius Institutes and Classroom in Bangladesh, representatives from Chinese language education institutions and media, faculty and students attended the event.
The competition was divided into two parts, with a China-related and Chinese Language Knowledge Competition in the morning and a Speech & Talent Competition in the afternoon. After intense competition among the 11 contestants, one first prize, two second prizes, three third prizes, and five excellent prizes were ultimately decided. Students from the Confucius Institute at North South University achieved excellent results. ADON REZWAN NAYEEM won the Second Prize; SINTHIA ZAMAN ALIF, ABASHA KHAN, and SARAH AFREEDA RAHMAN won the Third Prize; and NISHA CHAKMA received the Excellence Award.
The “Chinese Bridge” is one of the world’s most influential international Chinese language competitions. It aims to build a platform for young people around the world to learn Chinese, understand China, and promote cultural exchange and friendship.
In the future, the Confucius Institute at North South University will continue to promote Chinese language education and cultural exchange, and encourage more students to participate in international Chinese language and cultural activities.
