HSBC, Singer Bangladesh, Robi, and DHL Secure Spots in the Cup Semi-Finals
HSBC booked their place in the semi-finals with a 2–1 victory over Chevron Bangladesh in the first quarter-final. HSBC controlled most of the match and took the lead through an own goal by Shahidulla before Showmik added a second. Both sides created several scoring chances, while Faruk pulled one back for Chevron Bangladesh. Sharon of HSBC was named Player of the Match for his impressive performance.
The second quarter-final produced the first tie-breaker of the tournament after Singer Bangladesh and their opponents played out a goalless draw in regular time. Goalkeeper Omar Ali emerged as the hero for Singer Bangladesh, making two crucial saves in the shootout to guide his team to a 3–1 victory. His outstanding display earned him the Player of the Match award.
The third quarter-final delivered high drama as Robi defeated Standard Chartered Bank in a thrilling encounter. Just when the match appeared destined for another tie-breaker, Shakib’s long throw found Abir, whose back header sent Robi supporters into celebration. As Standard Chartered pushed forward in search of an equalizer, Nafi made a brilliant run before setting up Rehan for a simple finish to double the lead. Nafi was awarded his second Player of the Match title of this year’s tournament.
In the final quarter-final, tournament favorites DHL cruised to a dominant 5–0 win over Unilever Bangladesh. Shahinur scored twice to take his tournament tally to eight goals, the highest so far in the competition. Masum, Saikat, and Arif also found the scoresheet for DHL. Shahinur was deservedly named Player of the Match.
