Alliance Française was founded on July 21, 1883 in Paris by a group of renowned humanists like Ferdinand de Lesseps, Louis Pasteur, Ernest Renan, Jules Verne, Armand Colin with the objectives of reinforcing friendship and solidarity between people through the promotion of the French language and cultural projects. Alliance Française has 3 goals:
(1) offer courses in French, in France and in the wo

rld, to all sections of society
(2) promote French culture and cultures of French-speaking countries better and in all dimensions
(3) encourage cultural diversity and bring into focus all cultures

In 2007, the Fondation de l’Alliance Française (Alliance Française Foundation) is formed and recognized as a public utility. The Fondation de l’Alliance Française is the moral and legal reference of all the Alliances Françaises in the world. When one Alliance is formed, it asks the Fondation to recognize it, through an approval of its statutes. In 2008, the international network of Alliance Française is composed by 1,071 Alliances Françaises in 136 countries, 8,000 professors and 461,377 students. Nearly 6 million people attend cultural activities organized by the Alliances Françaises each year. Every Alliance Française is operated under local legislation and is managed by a committee made up of prominent personalities in respective countries.

𝑪𝑯𝑶𝑾𝑲𝑨𝑻𝑯 (চৌকাঠ)

Alliance Française de Dhaka presents 𝑪𝑯𝑶𝑾𝑲𝑨𝑻𝑯 (চৌকাঠ), the second solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐡 𝐉𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐧, now open at La Galerie.

Through linocut prints, soap sculptures, textile works, and delicate copper-wire drawings, Jabin explores women, domestic spaces, memory, identity, and cultural traditions passed down through generations of Bengali households. Her works reflect on familiar homes, rituals, and memories - inviting us to consider what is preserved, what is lost, and what remains across generations.

The exhibition is now open to the public and will continue until 8 August 2026.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for an engaging evening of Performance Art and Music as part of 𝑺𝑬𝑨𝑹𝑪𝑯 𝑺𝑶𝑼𝑳 𝑺𝑶𝑰𝑳.

The event was made even more special by the wonderful presence of children, whose curiosity and enthusiasm added a joyful energy to the evening. From captivating performances to soulful musical expressions, it was a beautiful gathering celebrating creativity, art, and connection.

A big thank you to all the artists, performers, and audiences who made the evening so memorable.

Alliance Française de Dhaka invites you to discover 𝑪𝑯𝑶𝑾𝑲𝑨𝑻𝑯 (চৌকাঠ), the second solo exhibition by Dhaka-based multidisciplinary artist Sarah Jabin.

Through linocut prints, soap sculptures, textile works, and delicate copper wire drawings, the exhibition explores women, memory, domestic spaces, identity, and cultural heritage bringing together stories, rituals, and memories that have quietly shaped generations of Bengali households.

At the heart of the exhibition is the “chowkath” - a space where personal memories meet collective history, connecting generations through the familiar worlds of home and everyday life.

This 𝟮𝟰 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆, join Ordinary Collective for 𝑷𝑯𝑶𝑻𝑶 𝑨𝑫𝑫𝑨 - a gathering that brings photographers together for an evening of conversation, learning, and creative exchange.

Founded by seven photographers, 𝑶𝒓𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 aims to create a supportive and inclusive space for photographers at every level to connect, share, and grow through dialogue, collaboration, and shared experiences.
