is a Caribbean non-profit, artist-led, inter-disciplinary organization that supports creatives and promotes wise social, economic, and environmental stewardship through creative engagement with society and by cultivating excellence in the arts. The idea for Fresh Milk developed over years of conversations with other practicing artists around the need for artistic engagement amongst contemporary practitioners living and working in Barbados, with an expressed need to strengthen links with the region and the diaspora. Fresh Milk bridges the divides between creative disciplines, generations of creatives, and works across all linguistic territories in the region – functioning as a cultural lab, constantly redefining itself. The platform transforms into a gathering space for contemporary creatives who are thirsty to debate ideas and share works through local and international residencies, lectures, screenings, workshops, exhibitions, projects etc. Website: https://www.freshmilkbarbados.com

Written directions:

From the Norman A Niles roundabout, head east off the highway. Follow the road for approx. 1 mile until you get to the Essco roundabout. George Secondary School on your left. At the T-Junction, turn right. At the fork with the FRESH MILK ARTBOARD, turn left. Take the first left into Walkers Dairy and The Milking Parlour Studio, following the sign saying ‘Manipura’. On entering the yard, drive past the house on the right and head towards the large tree in the middle of the yard on your left. Parking is available on the grass under the tree. Go down the slope towards the house on the left. Walk to the far end of the house and follow the foot path to FRESH MILK. If traveling by public transportation, take a Greens, Ellerton or Drax Hall bus, which will take you to the nearest bus stop by St. George’s Primary School.When you get off, walk up the road until you see our FRESH MILK ARTBOARD and take the left turn there. Follow this road until you see the ‘Manipura’ sign, then follow the directions listed above.

Fresh Milk is thrilled to announce our 2026 cohort of TENDER grantees!

This year’s TENDER programme, supported by Clara Lionel Foundation and Panta Rhea, took an alternative approach to our previous editions due to both our modified budget, and the high quantity of strong aspirants in the existing pool of applications from 2024 and 2025.

We had the pleasure of collaborating with a Jury panel consisting of previous Grantees: Versia Harris (Versia Harris ), Ronald Rose-Antoinette and Sarabel Santos-Negrón (Sarabel Santos Negrón ).

Great pleasure was unanimously expressed in reviewing the submissions, which observed “recurring themes in the submissions, including ritual work, use of natural materials, cooking, food security, solidarity and climate urgency. These concerns seem to be indicative of not only a heightened sense of awareness around some of the Caribbean’s most pressing issues and precarious circumstances, but also an interest in alternative and reparative methods of addressing them, with an emphasis on sustainable practices, healing and community work.”

Nieuwe Instituut and Tilting Axis are launching the sixth iteration of the Fellowship programme with an open call for applicants based in the Caribbean. ⁠

Are you interested in how knowledge is produced, preserved, and contested through archives, storytelling, digital platforms, or community practices? Do you work with themes such as memory, social or environmental change, or collective forms of knowledge-making?⁠
We welcome practitioners working across writing, film, sound, design, research, architecture, and other creative or interdisciplinary fields— especially those exploring how culture is shaped through collaboration, technology, and lived experience.⁠

➤ For Whom?⁠
The fellowship is open to researchers, designers, writers, curators, or cultural producers based in the Caribbean region who are interested in developing their research practice and building connections with cultural institutions in the Netherlands. Applicants may work across different cultural fields and practices, including those engaging with archives, social and ecological questions, cultural memory, spatial practices, design, architecture, or digital culture.⁠
⁠
The fellowship consists of a six-week period, including a 10 day visit with a 5 day tailor-made program for cultural exchange in the Netherlands. The fellowship takes place in April and May 2027.
