Musically cultured in the isle of Barbados, David Niles’ first exposure to music was at age 7 where he could be found bellowing the hymns of the ancients with his primary school’s boys’ choir. At age 12, he first became one with music as the beat of the drum and the beat of his heart joined together in quick succession producing melodic African rhythms. Some 10 years onward, the ancient merged with the modern as he experienced the contemporary sounds of the trumpet, trombone and saxophone. But the smooth, sultry, jazzy, passionately intense, romantic tones of the sax were to be the lasting rhythms resonating in his heart. David has spent the last 15 years traveling the Caribbean playing the sax in solo and group performances in major productions. His sound although professionally untrained, captivates the senses taking you into an euphoria of calm. It is unsurprising that among Barbadian greats like Cynthia Austin, Anthony (Gabby) Carter and the Barbados Police Band, he was invited to a solo performance in tribute to late fast bowler cricket extraordinaire Malcolm Marshall. Niles performs at various hotels including Bougainvillea Beach Resort, Sugar Bay Barbados, Accra Beach Hotel and others. Again in 2006 Barbados Jazz Festival, Niles played with Wayne Willock and featured in the song You are the One in dedication to Janice Millington. David went on to playing with the opening act KDB in 2006 Reggae on the Hill and the Antiguan Gospel Festival in 2006, in addition to numerous weddings. David believes his music is to make people forget about the daily grind and to minister God’s grace to them, to encourage and bless them…”I try to share what God has given me.”
He pays respect to other Barbadian musicians including Arturo Tappin, Andre Woodvine and international ones like Stan Getz and Grover Washington Jr.
