Mage Seat Scramble is a collab between DARUMA WADA and TOMOYA HANADA that tells a story of magic. More precisely, it’s a story about white magic and black magic.

Ah, don’t you just love stories about people overcoming segregation and imaginary boundaries meant to divide people? See, in the world of Mage Seat Scramble, black magic is the destructive kind, of course. White magic is what you use for healing, moving objects, etc. As you can imagine, people are REALLY not fond of black magic users.

So, our story focuses on a boy named Hirumiya and a girl named Yoichi. Hirumiya is the class clown who lives to keep the mood alive in his class; think of Natsuki Subaru from Re:Zero. Yoichi is a transfer student from the black magic school. NEED I SAY MORE?????

Basically, a cute little comedy love story about people staying true to their dreams and not falling for bu****it stereotypes. The art is cool, the Hirumiya and Yoichi are both really fun characters; the only thing I don’t like is how there’s barely any magic s**t happening in a MAGIC SCHOOL. This could have been a pretty fun serialisation, but it is what it is.

Julian doesn’t fully trust the Margrave, or maybe at all? On the other hand, his duel with Ceodric will be difficult, since a lot hinges on Jay winning. But, as I said, Ceodric seems like a much harder battle than, let’s say, Arkos, since we don’t have a huge mass of water around, aka the Water Goddess, to help. Also, Ceodric seems like a much more tactical fighter; Arkos was just a loose nuclear warhead.

So, this duel with Ceodric probably won’t end the way we all expect. I have a hunch that things will spiral out of control really soon in the story. Don’t ask why; I just have that feeling after the last chapter. This whole world is mad, and both the King and the Witches will now move to secure the Heart of Darkness, while we also have random ass schizos like the Margrave that have their own plans. Also, darkness being the penultimate enemy of mankind is so badass. Darkness basically signifies the unknown, as that’s the scariest things we as humans fear, and also one thing we can never truly beat.

Summers Past in Bloom is a REALLY fun, powerful lil one-shot that perfectly captures the duality of the human spirit.

See, most people get really hateful, bitter, and violent only when they’re cornered. Stripping away our basic needs tends to transform a man into an animal. Which makes complete sense; just imagine how you’d feel if you were hungry as f**k, cold, and tired. That’s exactly where this one-shot dwells: showing how we all act when we’re desperate.

This story focuses on an alien named Reta and a boy named Ryoka. Well, there’s also the village they’re in that’s enveloped by an eternal winter. The villagers aren’t too happy since everything around them is dying from the cold, but they have these weird stones they can trade to Reta, and he gives them whatever they want in exchange. Of course, the people see this as: “THIS ALIEN THING CAN HELP US, BUT HE ONLY DOES WHEN WE GIVE HIM THE STONES,” which plays an important part in the story. I won’t mention why tho.

Reta doesn’t like humans, cus they do be as****es, but Ryoka keeps telling him that summer would fix everyone’s mood, and everything else in the process. And once the situation escalates, and the only way to dispel the winter requires 5 people to sacrifice themselves, that’s where the true human spirit shows itself. I’m being pretty f**king vague, ain’t I, but trust me, this is a nice little story you should read yourself!

THE DEVIL WITHIN is another series on Manga+ Creators that’s quite popular right now, and I’m not sure why. It has a very gothic, thick art style at times, while being really simple in most scenes. So while certain panels pop the f**k off, most of them are just okay.

To be fair, the author is an artist in training, so I can only imagine how good this person will get in a year or two, judging by some of the panels in the first chapter. Everything else, though? Not very imaginative. It’s the usual Rosemary’s Baby story, a child infested by a demon, devil, or whatever. Since the author is Filipino, English is not their first language, and you can tell that from how stiff the dialogue feels.

So, while the three chapters of THE DEVIL WITHIN can be good eye candy, there is nothing else about it that drew my attention.

PARAMAX Fists N’ Ghosts is a lil exorcist manga from Brazil, made by Leon Lert.

It’s the same old “innocent kind dude gets dragged into bu****it by evil forces” shtick, but since it’s a one-shot, I treat it like a cool lil snack in the middle of the day. Like, it won’t satiate your hunger, but it’s delicious.

The character design is really fun, the artstyle is amazing, the dialogue is solid, and the world is the supernatural kind that we’re used to, but a bit different. Like, we’ve got SKINWALKERS, and everyone f**king loves skinwalkers. Not much to say about this one, but I def recommend it if you’re looking to read something short and sweet.

New series alert!

Salamander is a rom-com FILLED to the brim with explosive action, brash linework and phenomenal fight choreography. The plot and the characters ain’t too shabby either.

The story centers around Manda, a girl that ON INSTINCT reacts with violence to everyone that confesses to her. And absolutely everyone confesses to her because she’s really physically attractive, so all the gooners come after her, day after day. Then she proceeds to beat them into a bloody pulp. But for, this ain’t played up for a joke, she literally beats the brakes off every single one. She feels really bad after that, but she can’t help it, her body reacts on its own.

That’s the current set up so far. Won’t spoil anything more, so go check out the first chapter yourself. This is a SUPER EXCITING NEW SERIES, comes with a good blend of action and romance is just what I like, so let’s see how this one fares!

Today we’re taking a look at the hottest Manga+ Creators title: Resurgence.

This is a dark fantasy series, as edgy as it can f**king get, and pretty funny at times. It’s very reminiscent of old comics like Spawn and such, especially with how very morbid violence gets paired with super-whacky dialogue and straight-up degenerate characters. There really isn’t much to dissect here, or even talk about, so I urge you to read this one yourself.

The most notable part of Resurgence is the first “villain” type, a demon named Senka, who’s downright hilarious. From the way he talks, the way he moves, and the way he fights, it’s hilarious and horrifying at the same time. The art is also pretty f**king good, so there’s that.

Things went from “bad” to “we’re so f**ked” in Twilight Blade, as the two emissaries from Karikura are MUCH stronger than anticipated. The woman demon especially, tanking two hits from both the top-tier exorcists and BARELY getting wounded. Yeah, it’s not looking too good. On the other side, the demon sent for Hikari did the classic: “HIKARI, WHERE ARE YOU” technique. It was very effective, as it made Hikari turn around in the crowd. Now the man demon knows who Hikari is. Everyone is cooked. If anything, this is a very exciting turn of events, cus it seems like both teams are severely outclassed.

So, the second chapter of Noisering is out, and what the F**K happened. I mean, not that I hate the early horror set-up, especially since the second-to-last panel actually scared the living s**t out of me, but maybe we could have waited a bit more with the spooky stuff. Especially since they mention the f**king Necronomicon out of all things????? Like it’s a real thing in this world????

But yeah, super good f**king chapter, from Yadorigi’s backstory slowly feeding into how his hearing helps people in these missions, to the crew going over all the obstacles between them and saving Gien’s team, and the ending, where we see the previous submarine DISMANTELED AND NIETLY PLACED ALL OVER THE ENTRANCE, and the two members of the submarine also, uhhhh, well they met the same fate.
