Baku Corner was launched at the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Founder of IDEA Public Union as a non-profit project designed to contribute to global efforts directed towards promoting social justice and supporting community-based economic initiatives. Baku Corner offers a diverse collection of fair trade products produced by local and foreign artisa
ns. Besides taking lead to launch such a unique charitable project, Leyla Aliyeva endowed her own artworks to our store to support the cause of improving human welfare. One of the primary goals of Baku Corner is to empower vulnerable groups of the society, such as women and orphan children by mitigating their economic hardships and improving their living standards. Upholding globally recognized fair trade principles, Baku Corner offers economic opportunities and direct market access for the artisan women from Azerbaijan and the developing world by helping the trade of their handcrafted products. We strive to make our input in providing fair wages for local artisan women’s labor and therefore provide a sustainable market for trading their products, most notably Azerbaijani women's traditional headscarf called “kelagayi” woven from fine and soft silk in a four-cornered shape. Our store also offers artworks produced by children living in local residential institutions, such as orphanages and children’s homes. We are open to new ideas and suggestions and would be more than happy to help disadvantaged artisans in selling their other products at a fair price. We are closely cooperating with Global Goods Partners (GGP), a well-known non-profit organization dedicated to support women-led community based organizations in marginalized regions of different continents.
