On 20 May, the Ukrainian Center in Baku hosted the opening of a photo exhibition dedicated to Kharkiv, highlighting life in the city under full-scale war.

The exhibition presents a powerful visual story of Kharkiv today — from the consequences of attacks and the work of municipal services to the gradual restoration of infrastructure and the daily life of residents who continue to live and work in the city on the front line.

The opening was attended by Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Azerbaijan Yuriy Husyev, Ambassadors of Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland — members of the EUNIC Cluster Azerbaijan — as well as other members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organisations, members of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Mayor of G***a.

In his remarks, Mayor Ihor Terekhov expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani people for their support of Ukraine and emphasized the importance of initiatives that share the reality of the war and highlight the resilience of Kharkiv and its residents. The Mayor also shared personal stories connected to several of the photographs, reflecting the unbreakable spirit and resilience of the people of Kharkiv.

The exhibition remains open to visitors at the Ukrainian Centre in Baku, and guests are warmly invited to view the photographs.

At the Institut Français d’Azerbaïdjan, the opening of the photo exhibition “Regarde l’Ukraine / A Look at Ukraine” by Ukrainian documentary photographer Oleksandr Glyadyelov took place.

The exhibition traces the recent history of Ukraine from the moment of gaining independence in 1991. The photographs depict key turning points that have shaped Ukrainian society — from the collapse of the Soviet Union to Ukraine’s ongoing struggle against Russian aggression.

Oleksandr Glyadyelov is considered one of the leading figures of contemporary Ukrainian documentary photography. For more than 35 years, his camera has captured the most significant events in post-Soviet and Ukrainian history.

Through portraits of people, families, soldiers, and civilians, these photographs tell a profound and honest story of Ukraine’s struggle for freedom, dignity, and its own identity. It is a visual chronicle of a country that vitally and resolutely defends its right to a future.

At the Ukrainian Center in Baku, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Azerbaijan Yuriy Husyev, together with the Ambassador of Latvia to the Republic of Azerbaijan Edgars Skuja and partners from EUNIC in Azerbaijan took part in the opening of the art exhibition “Common Sky” by the renowned Latvian artist Ieva Krūmiņa.

This exhibition is presented at a very symbolic time - during the celebration of Novruz, a season of renewal and the awakening of nature’s forces. During these days, fire, earth, water, and wind are honored as sources of life and harmony. The artworks displayed here beautifully reflect this spirit. Solar symbols, star ornaments, depictions of natural elements, animals, and birds - all these motifs mirror the deep connection between humans and nature.

The exhibition explores the symbolic meanings and shared motifs of Latvian and Azerbaijani national ornaments, revealing cultural parallels between the Baltic and Caspian regions.

Ieva Krūmiņa is a renowned Latvian artist, Professor at the Textile Department of the Art Academy of Latvia, and a member of the Latvian Artists’ Union and the Latvian Textile Artists Association (LMA tekstils). She has more than 20 years of experience participating in and curating art exhibitions in different countries around the world.

The exhibition “Common Sky” will be on display at the Ukrainian Center until April, and we warmly invite everyone to visit, explore the exhibition, and discover these impressive works.

The exhibition is held with the support of the Embassy of Latvia in Azerbaijan.
