How do you mean, it is not a season for blowing Christmas ornaments?

Maybe not. But maybe these are not Xmas ornaments. These are glass baubles filled with curiosity and treasures : feathers from a Warawara and Barika Geel (sugar bird) that we found hiking. Seaglass collected at Malmok beach. Needles from cacti in our cunucu. Sea w**d. Aruban water. Air (mine!).

Dotted or evil eye beads are a popular step in the workshop glass bead making. But did you know the origin of this popular design can be traced back about 3000 years? Eye beads reach across a broad range of cultures and great time span. From Syria, Iran, Turkey and Greece, from 600 BC to now, these beads are still produced and believed to keep evil away. Their history reminds us that beads have always functioned as more than fancy adornment.
Realising that similar beads were bead in different times and conditions is humbling. And a way to bring awareness to old civilisations.

Today we had 3 generations of one family at the torch!
Elaine, Kaylin, Lindsey and Emrie created their first beads by melting glass rods at a temperature of 1300 degrees Fahrenheit. Well done ladies!

Exams over finally and done (for a while) with books? Join our youth project glass bead making at the torch!

Learn to melt glass at a temperature of 700 degrees Celsius and shape it into beads - this is creative science!

When: Mondays 4.30-6.30pm (May-August)
For: Local youth 14-25 years old
Price: only awg. 25,- per session

At Terrafuse we offer workshop glass bead making for beginners twice a week. But did you know we offer workshops for advanced flameworkers too?

These are the results from yesterdays workshop: glass blowing at the torch (soft glass). Not a workshop that gives great results rightaway: it is a workshop for diehards, that wanna challenge themselves at the torch.

we also offer workshops in little animals at the torch (on and off mandrel), encasing, hollow beads, and gold leaf & silver foil in glass. For advanced beadmakers we have the possibility to rent a workplace to experiment and create.

Not ready for the torch? Pass by for a tour in the studios and garden!
Open Monday 10am-1pm and Thursday 10am-1pm.

The youth project is back on track!

Learn to melt glass at 700 degrees Celsius and create glass beads at the torch. From May-August, same time as usual:
Every Monday from 4.30-6.30pm

* local youth 14- 25 years old
* individual guidance
* you can start anytime (no worries if you have proefwerkweek of if you are just too busy)
* awg 25,- per session
* only open for those that did not take workshops at Terrafuse before
