Life Experience
In April 2014 I moved to the coastal town of Emu Park and began to redevelop my business as a community based music and drama teacher. After working with disadvantaged children who have special needs, singing in retirement villages and nursing homes has assisted me in making the decision to commence this new community based teaching studio, Facets Music & Performing Arts Studio in
Yeppoon, August 2015. I was a classroom music teacher at Our Lady of The Sacred Heart School in Springsure. I promoted music in the school and worked to enhance learning with music as the focus, designed a music and choir program, taught individual students in an instrumental program, hosted a song writing workshops and community group drama classes and workshops. The Springsure Singers I started in 2008 still continues working at the Springsure Hospital providing music for the oldies each Friday with a dedicated group of not so oldies.
4MK radio & Mackay City Council approached me to coordinate Carols by Candlelight for the city, I maintained this relationship for 4 years. This gave me the opportunity to work with visiting artists and audition and train young performers. During this time I owned my own business in Mackay for 15 years as a singing and drama teacher in the private sector. I started 'Women Who Wanna Sing', known as WWW.Sing. This was started to assist women who were in or from abusive relationships to develop a voice and be heard using singing as a means of communication and to build confidence and develop a ‘voice’. The calling for further education took me to The Griffith University & CQCM (Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music) Mackay where I graduated with a bachelor of music. Brampton Island was a highlight of my professional entertainment career and lead me into facets of the arts, one has to be a versatile performer to work on an island. My piano and singing skills were fine tuned in this arena. The only difference is being allowed to make a noise. Admittedly some people need more training than others, some just need to have their confidence built. Learning to sing can be as easy as breathing.
