Kim Nelson passed away suddenly at his home at ‘Mountain Creek’ on Wednesday 12th August 2015, aged 57 years. Adored husband, best friend and soul mate of Therese. Loving and amazing father to Caitlin. Loved brother of Diana, Chris, Nick and Tony and cherished member of the extended family.

Family and friends are kindly invited to attend a celebration of Kim’s life to be held at the Yass Soldier’s Club commencing at 2.30pm on Saturday 22nd August with a light afternoon tea to follow.

A private cremation will precede the remembrance service. In lieu of flowers please donate to UNICEF.

ODDFELLOWS HALL 2010-2014
In mid 2010 artist Kim Nelson embarked on a personal project in his hometown of Yass, NSW - leasing an historic Oddfellows' Hall as a public studio. It was known as Kim Nelson Fine Art & Editions and was part work-space, part gallery, part performance venue.
The following years saw the project become a major cultural tourism attraction featuring many events including the Centenary exhibition of his artist uncle Leonard Long, OAM.
In March 2014 Nelson left Oddfellows' and in July 'YASSarts', a regional arts project he had started, took on a temporary lease of the property. It became a regional arts centre and staged eight exhibitions featuring varied artists of the region organized by the YASSarts committee. The lease ended on 10th December 2014 and was not renewed as the building was scheduled for sale.

Don't think about it as the end! The happenings at Oddfellows' over the last few years have laid some valuable groundwork for arts & culture potential in the Yass Valley region.

The final exhibition 'Feeling Festive' ran from 4th - 8th December and featured no less than 17 artists of the region. On Sunday 7th December YASSarts staged a special afternoon featuring impromptu poetry, music, juggling and bodypainting - quite often concurrently! We expected visitors to come and go throughout the afternoon, but as it turned out most opted to stay, captivated by the diversity of talent in every spectrum of the arts.

Dear one and all,
If you venture down to the Oddfellows' Hall in the heart of Yass tomorrow between 2.00 - 5.00pm you won't only see great art on the walls but spontaneous performances by poets, juggler, musicians and the like. You will witness a half naked Welsh man being body painted and you may even be offered a glass of wine or two!
The Oddfellows Hall in the centre of Yass has been 'pop up' gallery/arts centre for the last 6 months and has seen some wonderful events - but it all ends on Monday when the lease is up.
So come along and help us celebrate what has been a great arts venue and lets give it a great send off.

Come on! Come on down!

So this is it folks! The final weekend for the YASSarts Oddfellows' Arts Centre. You can come and join us for drinks tomorrow evening at 6.00pm or come along on Sunday for more drinks? Hmmm . . . can see a pattern emerging here.
Sunday will see some casual happenings from 2.00pm - like someone reciting a poem, or juggling some hats, or singing a song . . . or painting a naked body (well only a bit naked).
Either way, It's going to be fun so why not come down and hang around for a while, kick back and enjoy the ambience of the Oddfellows' Hall before once again the doors close on this beautiful space.
