Ok so this piece is finished but I have a very important point to make. This work is a copy. I found a photo online of a work by an artist named Kaye Parmenter and it was perfect for trying out a new painting technique. I wanted to copy an excellent original artwork so that I could see how and when to apply the technique I was trialling in my own work. This piece will not be for sale by myself ever. As it is a fairly close copy of another artists work I can take no credit for the original design. This lovely piece will hang in my home. BTW Kaye's original is much, much better.

I haven't posted in a while so thought I'd show you one of my current projects in progress. What you can see here is a painting at step 3 (background). The first step is the draw up, because this painting has a dark free flow background I used a masking fluid in the second step to help control the flow of paint and keep it off my owl. I'll start painting the body of the owl tomorrow. The masking fluid is that yellowish colour you can see. It peels/ rolls off the canvas which makes it great for adding white details and controlling paint flow. Another canvas I am working on uses the masking fluid to add in a lot of white details. This particular painting looks deceptively simple but will actually end up with many different layers of paint before I will finish it off with ink markers. I'm at 3 hours now not including the drying time between layers. At a guess I think it will be about 7 - 8 hours of work.

I entered a painting in the Yass show, I did this last year to show support for the less appreciated arts section (our photography section is massive) and I competed against myself entering 2 pieces into the one category. This year there are two other paintings in my category. I'm prepared to come third of three ;-) Elli and Harry have also entered items this year, Elli in art and Harry in Lego building
