Yarrawonga Mulwala Boomerang Bags and The Upcycle Gallery

Yarrawonga Mulwala Boomerang Bags and The Upcycle Gallery We aim to reduce waste in our community by connecting socially to make reusable shopping bags and upcycle everyday items into functional pieces or artwork.

Boomerang Bags is a grassroots, community driven movement tackling plastic pollution at its source. Volunteers from all walks of life get together to make re-useable ‘boomerang bags’ using recycled materials, as a means to provide a sustainable alternative to plastic bags. The bags create a platform to start conversations, make friends, up-cycle materials and work towards shifting society’s throw

away mentality to a more sustainable revolution of re-use – one community, needle and thread at a time! Together we link hands globally to create a paradigm shift to a more connected and conscious society. The upcycle gallery also promotes the imagination and creativity of local volunteers and participants in Yarrawonga Neighbourhood House programs. Items posted are largely made from recycled materials created in a social environment that encourages us to learn and share new skills. Please contact us for more information on how you can get involved or donate materials.

Yarrawonga Neighbourhood House remains open.

The Coronavirus is causing quite a bit of angst and panic in the community. Please remember the restrictions being put in place are to protect the most vulnerable people in our community.

But please encourage everyone to be kind and pay it forward.

If you know someone who lives on their own and are elderly or immune-compromised make sure they are OK and have the supplies they need.

If you have been overseas recently or have had contact with Coronavirus please do not come to the House.

If you are unwell or immune-compromised we are asking you to protect yourself and stay home.

YNH is very aware of the effects of isolation on mental health.

If you are isolating yourself and would like to register for phone calls and support call YNH 5744 3911.

If you are fit and healthy and would like to register for a Neighbourhood Army to support vulnerable people in our community call YNH 5744 3911.

The Centrelink agency remains open and our agents will do the utmost to assist you. If you are unwell please call our Centrelink office on 5743 2565.

In addition to measures governments and health services are already taking, we all share a collective responsibility to act and protect ourselves, our communities, and the most vulnerable among us. The best thing you can do to protect yourself and those around you from Coronavirus (COVID-19), and other respiratory illnesses, is to wash your hands – frequently, and thoroughly. If you are coughing or sneezing, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or with the fold of your elbow. Keep your distance – at least 1 metre – from people who are unwell. If you are sick, stay at home so you don’t risk infecting others, and seek medical care if you have trouble breathing.

We have set up a production line for making Wildlife Pouches.
Sewing machines will be set up everyday for anyone who would like to come and help!! - Please note that their will be limited space when regular programs are running(mainly Monday and Tuesday afternoons) .
Our wonderful volunteers are already hard at work and welcome anyone else who would like to assist.
If you don't like to sew or cut out the pouches, we are also accepting donations of materials.
Materials needed are pure cotton or cotton flannelette for inner pouches and fleecy for outer pouches.
No synthetics as the animals overheat.
There is also the option of picking up the cut out pouches and/or patterns if you would prefer to sew from home.
All of the pouches will be used and distributed by Moah's Ark Wildlife Shelter. Food is also a problem so the shelter is also seeking financial donations which can be made a Central Murray Credit Union.
Thank you already to St Andrews Uniting Church Op Shop by the lake and Vinnies Yarrawonga for their generous donations of material.
Also to the Yarrawonga Lions Club who have been collecting and sorting donations, taking financial donations and making cool neckties for the firefighters. Any material that we don't need and they can use will be given to them and vice versa.
We have a great community and thank you in advance for what you are doing to help those affected by the fires!!!!
Call 5744 3911 or drop in at 1 Hargrave Court Mon- Fri, 9-4pm for more information.
Please share!
