It's origins (and Math's) are not quite yet (but nearly) lost in the mists of time. They may be traced back to 'The Dawnsaga', a fantasy roleplaying campaign which found its wings with the original D&D back in 1978 and hasn't stopped since. The Dawnsaga was the centrepiece of the nascent Vala Adventures known as Valhalla Club which flourished in the early 2000s, and evolved into Vala Club with the
commencement of a School Holiday Program in 2002. Hosted by Yarralumla Primary School in the heart of the Australian Capital Territory, Vala Club nurtured the creative and adventurous spirits of a generation of children and teens from 2002 - 2010, adding an After School Program in the process. Throughout Vala's 'Generation 1' phase, tabletop roleplaying in The Dawnsaga was the mode and milieu, respectively, of choice. This was supplemented by the miniature and terrain modelling brilliance of Chris Harris-Pascal, the 'Sultan of the Shifting Sands', and the original Vala game tables/sand-boxes built by Thor Diesendorf of 'Thor's Hammer' fame. All together, during these formative years, Vala developed a signature style of engaging, hands-on, active roleplaying for young people. Around 2010 Vala Club combined with sister creative program, Creative Catalyst (Teffany Thiedeman's visual art workshops), also hosted at Yarralumla Primary School, and Aeon Academy was formed. ‘Aeon’ is a much-loved Centre for outside school hour education and care for children, fully Approved by the Australian Government as a Child Care provider. Vala Adventures continues to offer Vacation and After School programs for children and teens under the Aeon Academy umbrella, enabling parents to receive the Australian government child care subsidy towards the cost of participation. It also runs the Vala Veterans program at Aeon Academy, combining peer-to-peer buddying, mentoring and actual training in Vala facilitation in a childcare environment. In 2017 Vala celebrated 15 years of service to the community! It's 'Generation 2' form had evolved into a superlative blend of Tabletop and Live Action (LARP) Role Playing. While continuing with the wonderful tapestry of The Dawnsaga, it also now offered a wealth of Adventures in the realms of History, Legend, Martial Arts and Literature. Enki Son of Math, Australian Judo player and physical training innovator, brought to bear his own insights to Vala, revolutionising Live Action aspects. The year 2021 with all its challenges sees the beginning of 'Generation 3' of Vala. Vala Adventures forges ahead with pre-existing plans to broaden participation through Online means. Revelling in the opportunity to bring back the Sand Box and miniatures, now under the webcam, as well as delving in greater detail into the stories and all the incredible characters, Vala Adventures moves bravely into the future. It truly seems, just as they say… With Vala the Story Never Ends!
