the West Gippsland Concert Band just played at the 2026 Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod, and proudly won second place in the open ensemble section. Such a delight playing and sharing the stage with our friends of the Morwell Citizens Band and Latrobe orchestra (and their Pardalotes!!), we've got so much to be proud of with our ever growing community band culture in Gippsland!!

The super excited adjudicator praised the band for its beautiful playing, the great addition of singer Trevor Mills in an outstanding Nessun Dorma and especially the closing piece Around the World by Sally Greenaway got nothing but praise:

This was the highlight of the set. The band felt the groove of the rhythms naturally, and you have a great percussion section to support and scaffold you! This lifted the sounds to make a very strong finish. Well done guys!

Full House at the West Gippsland Concert Band this week, in preparation for our performance at the Latrobe Eisteddfod this Thursday! Can’t wait to catch up with our fellow community bands, and show them what we’ve been up to in Yarragon!

Incredible rehearsal tonight with the West Gippsland Concert Band! Warragul based composer Hannah Weston dropped in with sketches and ideas for an amazing arrangement she's writing for the band, instigated by our patron David Steele. You know you're onto a great collaboration when the sight-reading session already sounds golden, can't wait for the finished score!!

Session number one of our Instrument First Aid Course: Members of the WGCB are being trained by one of Melbourne's finest repair professionals, Matthew Holzinger of Windcraft Repairs in Hawthorn, to be able to fix our band instruments. We are so grateful and fortunate to have the support of the Community Bank Trafalgar & District Bendigo Bank, for creating this opportunity: we strive to create easy access to music for all in our community with our free music education programs. the majority of the instruments at our disposal are either generous loans from schools and individuals from West Gippsland, or $100 finds on facebook market place and opshops. To receive both the knowledge and tools to be able to fix these instruments is of the greatest possible value, it's a lifeline for our program. Today we focused on clarinets, in our upcoming sessions we'll go from saxes and flutes to all possible brass instruments. Can't wait, thank you SO much to Windcraft, Bendigo Bank and the Uniting Church Yarragon!!!

The West Gippsland Concert Band invites all kids to a FREE Drums and Percussion Workshop, On Monday 8 June and a Presentation Concert on Monday 22 June, with drum specialist Steve Schulz and members of our Concert Band. This is all part of our FREE Music Education Program, Band Basic (BB) training band and the Greenhorns Junior Band. No experience needed, and if you’d like to try out more than drums we can provide ALL wind instruments.
