A newly discovered genetic mutation triggers erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP). This discovery illuminates a novel biological mechanism potentially responsible for stories of 'vampires' and identifies a potential therapeutic target for treating EPP.

For me as a Storyteller, the true meaning of Hallowe'en is to remember & honour those who have gone before us

31/10/2020

Hallowe'en is older than Christmas, and like Christmas and Easter, has become a mix of history, culture and commercialism

Halloween, 31st Oct was also the time of the Celtic festival for summer's end - when some people believed the dead could harm them

Many Christians today shun Hallowe'en but it is the Eve of "All Hallows" a day when ancient Christians honoured Matyred Saints

I have not posted for a long time due to travel (where there is often lack of phone/internet signal) and commitments, so here is a photo from my WA trip in December - Rottnest Island Lighthouse. Once used as a prison for Aboriginal Men, it is an appalling part of our history - the men were chained and made to haul large stone blocks up hill to build the first lighthouse. This is the second one, which was built much taller, with the help of draught horses. Those isolated on the island today due to Coronavirus, could hardly call it a prison - it is a beautiful holiday destination.

About the Storyteller

My name is Ruth and I tell historical stories in period costumes, sometimes as a historic character.

I have researched and put together a collection of stories about our region, islands and coastal area.

I have a passion for reviving the art of Storytelling, believing that it is a great form of non-digital entertinment, and also a means of paying tribute to those who came before us - Aboriginal and European.

I include ghosts stories for fun - these have come from various sources or local people - and yet these stories have a message about the hard life endured by many, such as Lighthouse Keepers, before all the modern conveniences of today.
