Part 2...The fire changed many things, but it wasn't the beginning of my story....

There were decades of experiences, lessons, risks, failures, successes, creativity, growth and personal evolution that came before it. And there have been many chapters since.

For a long time, I glossed over much of that. I made myself smaller. I downplayed my experience and achievements because they felt less important than the next thing I was working towards.

What I am learning now is that honouring my journey isn't the same as bragging about it.

It's simply acknowledging the truth.

The truth is that I didn't become who I am in the last three years. I became who I am through every chapter that came before, every challenge I faced, every lesson I learned, every piece of art I created, every class I taught, every business decision I made, and every time life asked me to begin again.

My gorgeous phoenix reminds me of that regularly these days.

She reminds me that every chapter matters. The quiet ones. The messy ones. The successful ones. The painful ones. The chapters that shaped me long before the fire, and the ones that continue to shape me now.

She isn't rising from the ashes anymore.

She has risen.

I share all of this because it is a journey we all have in different ways. No matter what we have been through, there are stories and lessons, chapters and evolutions.

They are little reminders to remember to cherish to honour us within us. On those days and nights you might think it's too much or not enough we have all walked a path.

And every hug with a friend or loved one is one very special reminder that I cherish more and more as time goes on. Perhaps a pause will help you if you need it remember this too ❤️🥰🤗

Part 1

Tonight marks the 3-year anniversary of our house fire.

It’s so strange to think of as something I have lived through. So many things have happened since then, but it’s also not that long ago, so at times it still feels very recent. I find myself regularly saying “before the fire” or “after the fire”, but honestly there have been so many other milestones before and since that have also marked turning points in my life, and many of those journeys are still unfolding today.

As I pause for a moment today, I remember many things, but mostly I remember how special life is. How it can change in an instant. How some things have become less important and other things so much more. I remember the clarity and freedom it brought, and how I now regularly live my life differently than I did before.

It could have been so many different ways, and I am grateful every day for how we, as a little family, have navigated our way through it. If there is one takeaway I hope comes from sharing this, it is to remember the little things, especially as we go about our lives in the world as it is today.

In full transparency though, recently I will admit I have had some slight irritations with “my story”. There are people I have met who didn't know me before, and I am grateful that there are now people in my life who have no idea (nor should they) about these events and simply see me as I am.

I am in a healed place. A grounded place. But also a place that is fierce. Maybe it’s perimenopause. Maybe it’s age and being a little less willing to put up with other people's BS. Or maybe it’s that my Phoenix has well and truly risen from the ashes into a completely new way of being. ❤️‍🔥

My “reset” has meant that some people assume I only started three years ago and are proud of “how far I have come”. While I appreciate the sentiment, I have been in business for over 30 years. My layers have been unfolding for at least the last 20—deep, visceral ones.

Some I couldn't see while I was living through them. Some were lessons I had to learn the hard way. Some took years to understand and even longer to honour.

The fire changed many things, but it wasn't the beginning of my story.....

I printed a bunch of my latest designs for the Art Trai as well as bought some frames for them (square frames are hard to find pre-made TIP: Spotlight have square frames) but i didnt get a chance to put them out.

Prints are a lovely cost-effective way for you to own / share art you love, but working in a print shop I will say it can be a bit confusing in Australia with different print and frame sizes inches and cms. My biggest time is to find a frame first and see if ur print will go in it :)
This dilemma is why I was running a workshop about it for artists (but my fire stopped it) cause trying to get a quality sellable print is not always as straightforward as it seems. I answer questions weekly on this so if you have questions please ask I'm happy to help.

I have a few selected prints available on these artworks and a few others if you would like one please message me we can sort out sizes etc. Easily shipped unframed but again happy to answer questions just ask.

Choosing a frame for a painting, there are lots of things to consider as a potential owner, your style, your decor as well as the art itself too dark, too light could overpower the work, as could too thin or too thick frame?

That's why this one and many of my artworks aren't always framed it's a good investment if you have a good framer (which I do) but hard to invest that on my end if the client for this piece hasn't arrived yet and some pieces like this one I don't think sit well with just a standard style frame ;)

I love playing with ap to test it out different options but ofcourse it will depends on it's forever home as to how it will sit. 🥰
