Unforuntately after countless battles with the council over noise complaints from our surrounding neighbours , and our real estate/building owner over important maintenance not being done, we have unfortunately had to close the doors permanently at Phoenix arts Theatre.

Thanks to all the promoters, bands and others who used the space for their events over the time we were active. Mostly, thanks to all the punters who supported the all ages shows that we hosted and the staff who volunteered their time to help run these events. Hopefully there will be more local arts spaces in the future that are willing to host all ages shows, but this is the end for this one.

Earlier today we received notice that a petition had been made by a local resident with the aim to close our doors. This is due to the sound from some of the events hosted.

Although we do comply with local sound level restrictions, we do need your help to show the Lord Mayor of Brisbane city that is community art space is a necessary and strong cultural contributor to the local area.

If you have been to Phoenix Arts Theatre, or see the importance of art spaces of the like. Please give the petition a sign.

Phoenix Arts Theatre is a new entertainment venue and community arts space located in Woolloongabba near Brisbane city’s CBD. We endeavour to provide a platform for visual, theatrical and musical artists to demonstrate their talents, provide space for educating others and/or producing works and develop their abilities. Public events held at our venue are drug and alcohol free and open to all ages.

The costs associated with establishing the venue, garnering the correct permits and ensuring facilities meet all legal requirements per the Brisbane City Council’s local laws, combined with the outlay to lease the premises, were quite substantial and all personally self-financed by our group.

We have suffered continuous issues regarding noise complaints from surrounding residents of the venue. Although we endeavour to keep within all legal sound restrictions and not cause any disturbance to local residences, we must install extra sound proofing in order to continue operations as an entertainment venue hosting performances by artists, especially live bands.

The initial soundproofing that we have installed has already increased the temperature and decreased ventilation in the main hall facility. We now require air conditioning to be installed for the comfort of patrons attending events and the performing artists themselves, along with more soundproofing to ensure no disturbance of the local surrounding residents.

We are asking for your help to raise some funds to put towards further soundproofing and air-conditioning units in order to continue hosting live musical and theatrical performances for the local community at the venue in a way that is comfortable for not only the artists but the community members attending.
