A 28-year-old aspiring ballerina facing her last-chance audition must fight for her dream - and her identity - when she moves into a shared rental with a mercurial middle-aged businessman.

Winnie arrives at the door of a stylish Sydney apartment. She is welcomed by Kurt: effortlessly charismatic, seemingly successful, and an unlikely champion of her ambitions. As Winnie prepares for a career-defining audition with a leading New York ballet company, Kurt becomes mentor, confidant and friend.

But beneath his polished facade, Kurt’s own life is beginning to unravel.

His encouragement gives way to manipulation. The apartment that once felt like a sanctuary begins to feel like a trap. And with the audition drawing closer, Winnie must break free from Kurt’s tightening grip before the opportunity she has spent her life working towards slips away forever.

A tense new drama about ambition, power, dependency and the fight to hold onto yourself when someone else begins rewriting who you are.

APPLICATIONS OPEN: 2027 OFT PLAYWRIGHT’S COURSE

Got the spark of a play, but haven’t quite figured out how to turn it into a full script? This one’s for you. ✍️

In 2027, we’re thrilled to reprise the OFT Playwright’s Course, led by the phenomenal Mary Rachel Brown.

Designed for emerging writers with an idea they’re itching to explore, this year-long program will take participants from those first sparks through to a developed draft - building craft, workshopping pages, and learning how to pitch your play along the way.

Through monthly, in-person sessions at the Old Fitz Theatre, you’ll receive expert guidance, creative development and peer support to get the thing WRITTEN.

And the best bit? The entire program is FREE for successful applicants, fully subsidised by the Old Fitz Theatre’s Playwright Fund.

We warmly welcome and encourage applications from artists of all backgrounds and lived experiences.

Today we're shining a spotlight on the inaugural cohort of the Old Fitz Playwrights Course!

Fourteen early career playwrights have spent this year honing their craft, developing their process and cultivating their unique voices, mentored by the marvellous Mary Rachel Brown.

Each writer is working towards the completion of a major work, which means that by the end of 2026 fourteen brand spanking new Australian plays will be born into the world!

New work lives at the heart of the Old Fitz Theatre and it is our privilege to provide this opportunity free of charge, thanks to the Old Fitz Playwright Fund.
