Jammit Woodford

Jammit Woodford Local Music What is Jammit:

Jammit is an all ages music night run by volunteers who hold music events every Thursday night at the Woodford Bowls Club.

Latent musicians from around the area and abroad have dusted off their instruments, blown the cobwebbs out of their saxaphones and have lined up for a chance to become a local superstar. The event has rekindled, musical aspirations in a number of people and provided an opportunity for emerging musicians to have an opportunity to learn new skills and tricks from veteran players. Musicians of every

calibre have the opportunity to get together to perform and where the general public has the opportunity to see local musicians play. The basic concept behind Jammit is for up and coming musicians and experienced musicians to have musical items prepared for presentation and book themselves in on the night into a timeslot where they perform on stage in a time efficient manner. Swap over time between acts can sometimes be as short as 20 seconds to keep the action moving for a fun and entertaining night. If you don't play an instrument, come down to enjoy a free show and support members of your local community. There is food and drinks available to purchase. Bring along all your friends for a great time.

I have reached 500 followers! Thank you for your continued support. I could not have done it without each of you. 🙏🤗🎉

Gidday all, I think time is speeding up or maybe there are only 23 hours in the day due to inflation ???? anyhow, ... keep the the submissions coming in for "The Legend of jammit" book. If you need or want help, simply ask. Hopefully we will most of the submissions in before the end of the year. If you haven't started, set a time and sit down and simply write/type as though you are talking to someone who never had the "jammit experience". Hopefully we will have another get together before the end of the year although it is getting closer very rapidly. Over and out ... John jammit

Gidday jammites, Stephen Ewart has found, sorted and uploaded some older videos he has of past jammit nights and other events. It's from his collection so I think he will be in a few but there are a few gems including John Clark's "The Cat Came Back".
Here is the link enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbC2ZMtV7Eyzd6EgbWAB-qFxFt4LK0Z-2

Keep the submissions for the "Legend of jammit Book" coming in, share the word for those who are still unaware of the project, and spread the word about the Book Club, (https://www.facebook.com/groups/568946521282058/permalink/568962584613785)

We are chasing more input from the dancers and the general regular public who are underrepresented so far.

If you performed on stage and haven't written anything up yet, soon is a good time to get involved. If you need help, just ask.
There is another example recently uploaded on the Book Site to get you started. Regards John

Thanks to the folk who braved the cold to turn up at the meeting on Wednesday. It is great to see the enthusiasm increasing.
Our “Legend of jammit club” to date has 38 members.
We have identified nearly 40 more people who were involved in jammit but may not know that the book is underway. If you know of anyone who was part of the event, please let them know and encourage them to be part of this adventure.
It was raised and discussed that many, even keen people are not sure how to start or word their contribution which is a concern for them. Getting started is the biggest step.
Do not let that stop you from being involved.
Ask for some help and it will be given.
I have six or seven contributions that I have helped start from scratch and was happy to do so. If you have been helped, help the next person or encourage them to ask for help.
Usually when people get a hand to start, they do better than they thought they would. It's just like riding a bike for the first time only not as dangerous. Contact someone and say "can you help get me started" and then you can improve your submission in the coming weeks and months ..... but be involved and yell for HELP sooner rather than later.
Contact Phil Close, Marlene Clews, Geoff Hillier, Jeff Mapstone, Mary Martin, Brian Edwards, Norm Smith, Tess Gould, Crystal Peters, Paul Mills or John Lynn who will be happy to help get you get started because they are great people and they have already started and finished theirs with plenty of time for tweaking.
It was also noted that others think that their opinion is not worthy of comment. If you were involved with jammit, your comments are sought. You were an eyewitnesses and part of the family regardless of where you sat, when you first started or what you did. We want your input and comments. If you are not sure what to do, contact someone and ask for assistance. Don’t be shy, don’t miss out because you don’t know where to start or you underestimate the value of your input.
Geoff Mackenzie said at the meeting that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be involved in something like this. He and Narelle have the “added blessing” of writing up the “Never Two Late” experience as do the other bands and events that followed such as “jamming in Esk”, Blues Connection, Playitt, etc.
We are well on our way.
Talk about this, encourage any reluctant others to get involved and help them as you would have helped them learn a song.
We won’t need to get together for a good while but will keep you posted for the next get together hopefully in warmer weather. Welcome onboard to Sarah, Marty’s sister who has started some great cartoon characters that will appear in the book.
Spread the word, encourage everyone to be involved and help where you can. This is a family event.
Regards John

Things are on schedule with enthusiasm growing. We have 35 members in our growing "The Legend of jammit Book" group.
After going through photos of our earlier days I have identified another 40+ people who may need to be advised of the exercise. We will never get everyone but in the true jammit spirit of everyone having a fair go, we should collectively chase them up. Hopefully we may get some contact details at our get together this Wed 29 June at the Woodford Bowls Club.
Keep spreading the word and "do not" underestimate the importance of your "jammit experience" especially if you were "only in the audience" or "only went there to dance". The experience of every member of the "jammit family" is not only welcomed but encouraged and sought as a precious jewel.
If you enjoyed the jammit experience it was because of the collective efforts of others. Now is your opportunity to give back because "The Legend of jammit Book" will be enjoyable because of the collective efforts of those who participated by being on stage or simply in the audience. And you are one of those people.
I have about two dozen submissions completed or on their way and everyone's story is very very different.
We will have peppered through the book "jammit on stage antics" and "jammit off stage antics" so even if you wish only to submit a small observation, then that will be suffice but please be involved, be a participant and don't discount the importance of your input.
As examples here are some of Geoff Hiller's "jammit off stage antics"
Kevin Brand; base guitar and vocals, one night in the middle of a song Kev started talking to me, I had to tell him “not now I’m busy in the office” Kev was testing me, really good musos can both play and talk.

Alan Salmon; again, multi-instrumentalist and vocals, great fun to play on stage with, we would often pull faces at each other whilst playing!

Andrew Coleman; Guitar and vocals, always arrived early to lug and set up, so I stepped in to help, one day he said he had homework to do so I took over. If I had a son, Andrew would tick all the boxes!
Joy Hendon; Bass/Vocals, (you’re terrible Muriel) often Joy would change out lyrics in a song to make it funny eg Bad habits became Mad Rabbits, Joy was really good at making you feel welcome as she is naturally a happy person.
Ern Smith; Percussionist (he drove the fastest milk cart in the west) as a drummer I had never shared the stage with a percussionist, what a treat!
Chas Whitling; Keyboards, vocals, once ran from stage right and stood next to the drum kit, I was very busy doing a rowl (at the end of a song you go nuts and hit everything on the drum kit) I managed to yell “What” then Chas replied “I just wanted to see how you do that”.
