UNIQUE & RARE ART COURSE OPPORTUNITY

Andy Weber, Master Thangka Painter

By special request, Andy will provide a very special thangka painting course. We will be focussing on the Maitreya Buddha, the future Buddha, the Buddha of Endless Love and Compassion, prophesized by Buddha Shakyamuni as the Buddha for the coming world age and of particular importance in these times.

Participants will learn how to make the perfect canvases for thangka painting, how to transfer the image or draw it directly on the canvas, and how to the background. We will learn about painting techniques and how to make and mix paints. To evoke the deity, we will learn how to place blessing symbols on the back of the canvas and give life to the deity’s emanation.

Dates: 18 – 28 September (10 full days)

Venue: Wellbeing Centre, Eudlo, Queensland (Sunshine Coast area)

Course cost: $850 – includes all materials except brushes*

While we will be making our own paints, some students may want to bring additional colours with them. A list of recommended colours will be provided.

* Experienced painters will have their own brushes; beginners can invest in a basic, inexpensive set; we can tell you what you need.

In mid-September 2023, Andy Weber returns to Australia.

This year, rather than travelling the country doing short 2-3 day thangka painting retreats, Andy will be conducting a single, 10-day thangka art retreat/course, "starting from the beginning".

During this Buddhist art retreat, Andy will take students on a complete thangka journey, starting with making canvases in the traditional manner, making paints from scratch, drawing the grid for the deity, and finally painting the thangka itself. At the same time, Andy will be giving teachings on the meaning of the particular art work being created.

Andy seldom does this sort of immersive retreat, so this is a unique and rare opportunity and places will be limited.
