This is the behaviour that needs to be aired!

No connection to country, men getting together doing what they call ceremony and not having a clue nor permission for that fact with what they are doing!

Come sit with Traditional people and do things the right way. We are not hard to find.

And before anyone cries lateral violence, please don't as its addressing protocol within our Aboriginal community.

Just for the record this behaviour doesn't bring community together, it divides our community and the relationship between us all.

• Welcome to Country

A friendly reminder to our Aboriginal community members/services that still continue to run against protocol on a daily basis, you will be highlighted every time if you choose to continue this behaviour & your practice will be question.

What it is:

A Welcome to Country is a ceremony performed by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people with ancestral ties to the land where an event is taking place, to welcome visitors.

Who performs it:
It can only be performed by Traditional Owners or those who have been given permission by them.

How it's done:
Welcomes to Country can take many forms, including singing, dancing, smoking ceremonies, and/or speeches.

Significance:
It is an important mark of respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as Australia's original inhabitants and enables the Traditional Custodians to give their blessing to the event.

Acknowledgement of Country:
An Acknowledgement of Country is a statement that acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land and their ongoing connection to it, and can be delivered by anyone.
