About Visage
Following the success of Paradise Lost at the 2024 Sydney fringe festival, Theatre Visage was set up as an independent performance company dedicated to mask work, currently based at the Phoenix Theatre on Dharawal land Coniston Theatre Visage is an independent company that produces Masks and Mask based performance, company director Steen has worked as a mask artist for 0ver 40 years
following initial training in Paris and is constantly training and expanding a skill set thet we can draw on as a company. Visage will perform in Wollongong and export its work to festivals and other performance venues; we also produce Masks as exhibition pieces and for other companies. Amongst our credits are Oz opera, Sydney dance company, Australian Ballet, Sydney theatre company and various film and stage companies. After 40 years in the industry the decision was made to dedicate ourselves to mask work, which was the origin of most theatre practices millennia ago. Visage provides training in various forms of mask-based performance drawing on Steen’s extensive personal training with some of the industry’s great visionary performance makers.
