I sketched some Bar-tailed Godwits a few months ago but decided they needed some colour so I traced them into my multi media sketchbook and had fun painting them.

I used coloured pencils, acrylic markers, Posca pens, neocolour 2, and micron pens. I painted the background in acryla gouache.

Bar-tailed godwits are the world record holders for nonstop flight and have been recorded flying from Alaska to Australia in 11 days! 😳

I had a lot of fun painting this one. It is based off a photo I took whilst on a girls weekend in Beechworth. I went for a morning walk and I could see this amazing historical house visible through the trees in the distance, and it went straight on the “to paint one day” list.

I used all of my mixed media in this one. Inktense pencils and Ecoline markers for the base. Acryla gouache, normal gouache, and watercolour for the mid layer and then neocolour II, acrylic markers and coloured pencils on top.

I love how vibrant it turned out and the texture you can get with mixed media is fantastic.

Just before Christmas I went away with my book club and we visited The Magic Forest near Beechworth (if you are in the area and haven’t been it’s worth a visit) and one of the group took a photo that this painting was referenced from.

I just loved the composition and the light. I added the bird for a touch of humour but who knows how many were really watching us.

This was created in my sketchbook using lots of mixed media. Watercolour base, coloured pencils, markers and neocolour 2’s over the top for texture.

I finished this Australian Magpie a while ago (before Christmas-wow that went quick 😬) but I just wasn’t sure if it was done-done, if you know what I mean?

Since then I have spent time studying it and now I can finally say I am happy with it, and that it is actually finished. Sometimes it is worth taking a break from a piece rather than over work or complicate it.

This was painted on 100% cotton paper (it needs to be good paper to withstand the amount of layers I use). I did the under painting with Ecoline markers, then coloured pencils, acrylic markers, neo colours and fine liners over the top, with the background painted last in acryla gouache.

I am a massive fan of mixed media and the different textures you can achieve (plus it’s fun 😀)

Sketchbook fun 🎨🖌️

I created this Phoenix a while a go for a bit of fun. The original sketch I didn’t like so I kept adding layers and colour until I was happy. Colouring in with mixed media 😀

Here is a list of the materials I used. Coloured pencils, watercolour, gouache, neocolour 2s, acrylic markers, Ecoline brush pens, metallic markers and black fine liners. Drawn in my Strathmore mixed media sketchbook.

Who me?

When you know you are looking glamorous but are trying your hardest to be subtle about it 😂

I had a much needed creative afternoon today. I had no idea what I wanted to draw so I scrolled through Pinterest until I saw something that caught my eye. I spotted a photo of a lady in a crochet cardi holding her phone and the colours drew me in. Instead of the phone I replaced it with a French bulldog, because, hey, why not 😀

The base layers were created using Ecoline pens and Derwent Inktense pencils, then coloured pencils, fine liners and acrylic markers over the top.

I haven’t had much time to create art recently but if I don’t make the time it really gets to me.

So this week I got all my art supplies out and created this piece whilst watching tv.

I had no idea what I wanted to draw but was feeling a bit home sick so I searched photos of a North Norfolk and this lovely one from Blakeney came up. It’s not an exact replica but my take on it.

I used lots of mixed media in this piece. But mainly and for the base and then coloured pencils, neo colours and acrylic paint pens on top and then I removed the background in

I love this pattern. Such a quick make and it can be made in so many different fabrics. This is a very stretchy lightweight rib knit from deep in the stash. I think it came from but I can’t be 100%. Buttons from

When I made my first one of these I was really intimated by sewing the button holes on stretch fabric, but with the interfacing on the front band it is a breeze!

I’ve been sewing a lot lately but I got the urge to paint on Thursday and I’m really happy with the results.

This is a mixed media painting based off of a photo I took on a walk around the Hume Weir.

I used for the base and then and on top.

Saturday WIP 🖌️🎨🤗

I started painting these swallows ages ago, but was majorly procrastinating about the background. I knew I didn’t like it but couldn’t decide what to do.

Anyone else do that? I always find the background the hardest.

Well today I just needed to paint and not overthink anything and I am so much happier with the background. I will still tweak it once the birds are finished but it’s getting there.

Cactused! That is exactly how I have felt this week. It’s been a busy one.

I felt like drawing some Cactus last week. No idea why, but here you go 😀

These were a quick mid week sketch whilst watching TV. I used my Ecoline markers for a base coat of colour and then coloured pencils, neo colour 2, tombow markers, inktence pencils and posca pens over the top.
