Happy Halloween!

Rounding off our list for Dracula movies to watch this Halloween is Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992).

Francis Ford Coppola's take on Bram Stoker's novel introduced new vampire film tropes and reinvented the image of Count Dracula with Gary Oldman's portrayal.

This is the only Dracula film to win an Oscar, winning 3 (Costume Design, Makeup and Sound Editing) at the 1993 Academy Awards.

This is also the film that has most influenced our attraction!

Dracula, 1974

Originally known as Bram Stoker's Dracula, the film is now referred to as Dan Curtis' Dracula or simply just Dracula after the rights to the original title were purchased for Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 film.

Jack Palance stars as the titular vampire in this adaptation of Bram Stoker's original novel which depicts Dracula as once being Vlad The Impaler, the real life inspiration of Dracula.

Coincidentally, this change was also used in Coppola's version of Bram Stoker's Dracula years later.

Dracula, 1958 (also known as Horror of Dracula)

Starring Peter Cushing as Van Helsing and Christopher Lee in his first of many performances as Dracula, this film adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel is considered one of the greatest horror movies of all time.

Dracula, 1931.

Bela Lugosi's Dracula cemented the vampire as a pop culture horror icon.

The movie defined many gothic tropes that would influence the horror genre for years to come and helped move the genre on from the silent era of films.

If you appreciate the classics, this historic film is well worth a watch this Halloween.

Dracula, 1979.

Frank Langella, who played Dracula on Broadway, brings his version of the Count to the screen.

Although some of the characters are changed, the plot largely follows Bram Stoker's novel.

This is one of the few adaptations to include Whitby, however filming took place around Cornwall.

Nosferatu, 1922.

The first film adaptation of the Dracula book changes the names of the characters, with the vampire named 'Count Orlok'.

Despite the changes to avoid copyright infringement, Nosferatu acknowledges Dracula as the inspiration and follows a similar story.

The German film is now considered a critical masterpiece that has influenced the horror genre.

On this day in 1887, Dracula arrived in Whitby in Bram Stoker's novel.

He arrived on The Demeter, inspired by the real ship The Dimitry of Narva (below).

His ship was wrecked on Tatehill Sands, just across the harbour from where the Dracula Experience stands today.
