I never thought I’d be making this post because I used to brag about this guy, but I’m really struggling with whether I can keep him anymore. He has started attacking my dog with his spurs, has bitten my husband multiple times, and recently bit my son’s ankle while he was tossing treats, hard enough to draw blood. I’m not sure if it’s spring, the new flock additions, or because one of his girls just hatched a chick, but his behavior has gotten way out of hand. The hens seem stressed now, and I feel terrible leaving them in the run with him. He’s constantly dancing around them and even pecked my oldest girl in the head this morning when she came out of the coop. We’ve tried the usual methods — holding him, pinning him, walking him around — but nothing seems to be helping. I’m frustrated, sad, and honestly just venting because I do love him, but my family has to come first. 🐓😞💔

Any tips for helping keep the rest of the flock from picking on this sweet little roo? 🐓💛 I picked him up at a farm swap today after overhearing that he was going to be “tossed in the trash if no one takes him,” and I just couldn’t leave him there. He came home with three Polish hens, but now some of the hens are pecking at his poor bare neck. Any advice for protecting him while everyone settles in? Also… do they make turtlenecks for chickens? 🤣🧣🐔

We built this hoop house to keep the young chickens safe and it works great but I found one small problem. The latches are on the outside so I’m usually careful to not completely close the top one but, things happen! This week, while feeding and watering, I found myself locked in. Thankfully I had my phone so I called the hubby to come to the rescue. He couldn‘t help but tease a little and then take a picture before letting me out. I have fixed the problem!

I need some help understanding what I found today because I know nothing about chickens 🙁🥚 I get eggs from a friend, and I was cracking some open to make scrambled eggs when one of them had what looked like a baby chick inside. It completely turned my stomach, and I lost my appetite right away. The eyes didn’t seem fully formed yet, but the rest of it looked like it was developing normally. How long does it take for a chick to grow inside an egg? I buried it because I didn’t know what else to do 😢🐣

This one hurts so much. My 13-week-old Wheaten Ameraucana was perfectly healthy, active, and happy earlier today, and then she was just gone. No break-ins, no obvious predator signs, no illness — only bruising and missing feathers. I’m devastated and full of questions. 💔🥺
