We're excited to share that we're supporting a research project about our language!

Birrbay and Warrimay galbaan, Jessica Tapp, is a Gathang language learner and one of our team studying research at

Her project is looking at how a digital archive for Gathang could be governed and made accessible for our community, on and off Country, which fits in with our strategic goals.

Her research is grounded in Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles. This means our community stays in control of our language and knowledge.

Gathang Community Class in Djarii 🌿

Join us this Thursday for our free weekly Community classes.

Whether you're just starting your language journey or already know some Gathang, everyone is welcome. Have a yarn, connect with community and help keep our language strong.

📅 : Thursdays
🕛 Time: 4:30pm – 5:30pm (Thursdays, excluding holidays)
📍 Location: Taree Universities Campus, 2 Pulteney St, Djarii (Taree)

These classes are open to all First Nations mob across the region. We look forward to seeing you there!

Meet Our Finance Assistant

Narelle is a Meintangk (SE of South Australia) and Wotjobaluk (Victoria) woman on her Mum's side, with German heritage from her dad's side.

She grew up in Adelaide (Kaurna) before moving to Sydney's Northern Beaches (Garigal) and having a family of her own. As an empty-nester she lived in Port Macquarie (Guruk) for a few years, before settling down on the outskirts of Crescent Head.

Narelle's career has been a variety of administration and customer service roles working in not-for-profit & non-government organisations, the private sector, as well as local & state government, in housing, health, children's services, community engagement, and learning & development.

Fun fact: Narelle absolutely loves living off-grid with her partner, growing veggies and bushtucker in their veggie patch, and interacting with the local wildlife.

She is passionate about working with people who want to make a difference in the community, and she can't wait to be part of the Gathangga Wakulda team!
