Opening night is just 4 sleeps away and we are debunking Orlando myths!!

Myth 2: You might be thinking you need to have read Virginia Woolf's Orlando to enjoy the show... 📚

You absolutely don't! The production stands completely on its own as a theatrical experience. Mrs Grimsditch, Orlando's faithful housekeeper, even breaks the fourth wall to keep the audience on track throughout!

Flo Roney plays:
📚One of the 9 actors playing Virginia Woolf herself

🇮🇪Euphrosyne - an Irish landed gentry who gets very salty when Orlando rejects her hand in marriage

🎩Wit 2 - a ridiculous fellow wearing a bicorne

Flo's most recent roles have been Quincey Morris, the Texan socialite, in the Death and Birth of Dracula in last year’s One Act Play Festival and the understudy for Sybylla in WTC’s production of My Brilliant Career.

She loves Orlando because it encourages you to find joy in little moments 🥰

Orlando is unfamiliar territory for many of us, so this week in the lead up to our opening night we are going to bust some myths we’ve heard along the way!!

Myth 1: You might be thinking Orlando is heavy, serious literature... 👀

Think again! As our producer Dean Field told the Warrnambool Weekly this week, this script is funny! Virginia Woolf herself described it as "half laughing, half serious: with great splashes of exaggeration" and director Warren Easley has really leaned into that. Think Perfect Match style game shows and a ship's captain getting far too familiar with his telescope.

Dean even got in on the action at rehearsal the other week. He couldn’t resist 😉

Britt Butten plays:

📕One of the 9 actors playing Virginia Woolf herself - specifically the one who seems the most surprised by her creation on stage (and yet beaming with optimism and wonder)

🥵 Personal Secretary - a serious Englishman stuck in Constantinople just trying to get by in the heat and Orlando's chaos

💃Nell - An unfortunate but thoughtful ‘lady of the night’ Orlando encounters on their travels (who is living her best life!)

You may remember Britt in our recent production of SHOWSTOPPERS where she strutted the stage in a red feather boa for Big Spender (...Orlando incidentally marks Britts 3rd time playing a seductress on stage...and she doesn't mind the type cast!)

Dusk Baulch plays:
🪿 Orlando - a brat, jock, poet, and all round emotional cyclone, delighted to be alive and on the loose from the hive mind of multiple Virginas surrounding them.

🦉a Virginia Woolf - helping to riddle the life of their Orlando creation with challenges (made from Queens and Kings and strong personalities)

Dusk was last on stage as an MC for a transmasc drag and variety night, and as a disreputable Wolf in The Unluckiest Man in the World.

They love Orlando because the cast and audience all get to be revellers together in a surreal experience of time, gender, and glorious fashion.

Angela Verspay plays:
🧶Mrs Grimsditch - Orlando's faithful housekeeper who goes through something of her own transformation during the play

🤓One of the busy, studious Virginia Woolfs who keeps everything going

Angela’s last role was Rosie in ‘The fly on the window’ by Ross McCorkell and Lex Waterreus. Angela also had the pleasure of playing Lucy in WTC’s production of My Brilliant Career last year.

She loves Orlando for its fun, playful celebration of q***r themes and its kaleidoscope of theatrical styles! 🌈🎭

Dusk and Angela will play Orlando and Mrs G on September 13 and 19!
