HAPPY NAIDOC! 50 years of deadly! 🖤💛❤️ “Guardian of Country” represents Bunjil soaring above Country, watching over the waterways, gum trees, ancestors and all who walk upon the land. The lines beneath tell the stories of journeys taken, while the meeting places reflect the strength of community and kinship. From above, Bunjil reminds us that we are never alone.. our connection to Country, culture and each other continues to guide and protect us. Original Acrylic on canvas 52cm x52cm 👣 🌿

🌿 We Have a New Look 👀
Commencing in 2021 during the worldwide pandemic, I found comfort in an old tin of white house paint, a handful of coffee beans, and an empty picture frame.
With those simple things, I poured out what I imagined the entire world was feeling… A longing to be with family and friends, a desire to be free, and an imagination no longer confined by four walls.
Art carried me through to the other side of what felt like slight madness.
Fast forward to 2026, and my artwork now hangs in homes and businesses across Australia. I have had the privilege of working alongside people who trust me with their stories. Some are beautiful, some are beautifully tragic, but every story is meaningful. It is an absolute honour to bring those stories to life through my art.
My name is Kristy De Bono, and I am a proud Gunditjmara contemporary Aboriginal artist. My work is inspired by Country, spirit, culture, family, and community.
Through KOKAIAR ART, I create pieces that celebrate connection, storytelling, and the beauty of Country.
Thank you to everyone who has supported my journey so far. This new look is just the beginning. 🤎

“Carried by Country” reflects the way culture, spirit and connection are held and nurtured through generations. The flowing blue waterways represent life, healing and the movement between land, water and people, while the detailed green tones symbolises growth, renewal and the strength found in Country.
The coolamon within the artwork, Traditionally used to carry babies, food and gathered resources, it is a symbol of nurturing, protection and the strength of women and community. In this piece, the coolamon reflects the idea that we are all carried by Country guided, grounded and held through our connection to land, ancestors and spirit.
For me, this artwork is about belonging. It reflects the comfort of returning to the places, people and culture that continue to carry us through life.

“Koontapool’s song” This piece is inspired by the whales that travel along the coastline each year, bringing a sense of peace. Growing up surrounded by the ocean, the Koontapool’s (whales) have always felt like more than just visitors.. they carry story, spirit and a reminder of the deep relationship between land and sea.
The flowing blue waters represent the Southern Ocean moving against the shoreline, while the warm earthy tones symbolise the sand, cliffs and Country that hold these stories. The journey lines reflect movement, migration and the pathways travelled across generations, both by the whales and by our people.
The whale tail emerging from the water represents strength, guidance and renewal. For me, this artwork captures the feeling of standing along the coast watching the whales surface those quiet moments where you feel completely connected to nature, spirit and home.

“Golden Sky Dreaming” 🌻 reflects the warmth of sunset on Country and the connection between spirit, family and land. The glowing sun sitting above the meeting places represents guidance, life and the strength passed down through generations.
The flowing lines symbolise journeys and connection pathways, while the dot work carries the energy of stories, memories and ancestors moving across Country. The pink and earthy tones throughout the gathering places represent community, healing and the importance of coming together.
For me, this artwork is about feeling connected to culture, to family and to the moments shared together. It reflects the comfort of sitting together, sharing stories and remembering that even through change, our connection to each other always remains strong.
