Ceremony of Connection at 📍Elwood Beach

Yesterday dancers .alyne2 communed at Elwood Beach to bear witness to the sunrise.

Together we explored movement/dance practice that responded to the prompts of connection with self, connection with eachother and connection ‘beyond’ - a practice we usually embrace in the studio setting, but this time had the blessing of exploring in a site specific beachside location. Thank you to for documenting our practice on camera. It was truly special to be witnessed in this way đŸ™đŸ»

Happy International Dance Day!

To those of you that survived covid lockdowns and still hold true to your dance practice

To those of you that moved on but miss the home of your body and regular movement practice

To those of you that are in the thick of performance season and are ever invested in rehearsing and performing

To those of you that are studying to make it as a ‘professional dancer’
but are unsure what that will tangibly look like when full time studies finish

To the dancers facing mental health challenges at the moment

To the dancers that struggle with disordered eating

To the dancers that are in a never ending cycle of perfectionism and have a strong inner critic

To the improvisers, free spirits, movers and groovers and colourful sparks of hope in a dark room

We see you

We are grateful for you

You matter

We believe in you

Wishing you all a Happy International Dance Day!

— with love from the artists of Grace Dance Company

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Hannah Gabrielle Friebel grew up dancing; free spirited and full of wonder and awe. Her vision for dance came at a very young age - which was realised with the launch of Grace Dance Company on World Mental Health Day 2020. Hannah advocates for mental health in all that she does, informed by her own lived experience. Hannah adopts an interdisciplinary practice in mental health and the arts, currently working as a Consultant at Monash Health and Researcher at Monash University where she amplifies Consumer lived experience voices in support of mental health system reform. Longer term, Hannah is pursuing training to become a Psyschologist and brings a wealth of mental health knowledge to inform her work in the dance sector. Our debut work was created in collaboration with , which Hannah is is also a founder.

In 2019 Hannah travelled to London to study dance at Roehampton University. It was here that she began to connect her passion for mental health advocacy with the dance sector, meeting with dancers across the UK, EU, US and Australia to advocate for improved mental health standards for dancers. This includes having recently established a Dancer Peer Support Program with , as well as ongoing contributions to the International Dance Psychology Journal Club (a global collaboration of researchers committed to dance and mental health promotion).
