As Boeing Boeing - Warrandyte Theatre reaches its final days with many sold out performances, we have one final introduction for you. Thank you to the Warrandyte community for coming out in force to support the production!
Taryn Johns who is co-director of Boeing Boeing and was asked a few questions about the production!
1. What was your favourite rehearsal moment?
My favourite rehearsal moment would have to be our very first read-through as a group. It was the first time the cast and crew came together to read the script from start to finish, and for some cast members, it was the first time they'd even met! The energy in the room was magic, the tears from laughter were real, and the excitement of bringing this show to the Warrandyte Theatre was genuinely electric. From that moment, we knew we not only had a great show, but the most amazing and talented cast and crew!
2. If you could steal one prop or costume from the show, what would it be, and why?
Hmm... let me think... If I could steal one prop, it would have to be Bernard's timetables! (If you know, you know! 😜)
Joking aside, I absolutely love the entire set. It's been really special watching Bernard's apartment come to life from the very first sketches to what audiences will see on stage. A huge shout-out to everyone who has generously donated their time, talent and creativity to make it happen. It's a real testament to the incredible community spirit at Warrandyte Theatre.
3. Which part of directing a farce was the most fun: shaping the characters, perfecting the timing or managing the chaos?
Managing the chaos has been an absolute blast! Farce is like a perfectly choreographed train wreck, everything has to look delightfully out of control while being incredibly precise. Our talented cast has embraced every moment, found the comedy, taken risks, pivoted when needed, and created some genuinely edge-of-your-seat, laugh-out-loud moments. Watching it all come together has been so rewarding.
4. Which character would you least trust to organise your travel itinerary, and why?
I'd have to say Robert. He means well, but he has a habit of stumbling into chaos rather than planning his way around it. I have a feeling he'd accidentally double-book the hotel and somehow convince himself it was all part of the plan. It would certainly be an adventure!
5. What should audiences expect when the doors close and Boeing Boeing takes off in Warrandyte?
I hope audiences experience a show that brings them as much joy as we've had putting it together. Expect plenty of laughter, wonderfully chaotic moments, larger-than-life characters and a few surprises along the way.
