Sensational Preview Performance

We had a sensational preview night last night in front of an invited audience.

The whole team performed to a new, elevated level responding to the presence of a real audience.

Audience feedback afterwards was most gratifying. Comments included:

"intensively moving"

"mesmerising"

And from an actor who has seen all our shows for many years:

"I thought that the 39 Steps (in 2013) was the finest show I've seen here, but this was better".

Meet the Director - Grant Purdy

I've been involved in the theatre for nearly 60 years and when I first read The Father I found it one of the most moving and well written script I'd ever read. We tested it out in January and all those present at the reading were similarly wowed. We decided we had to stage this in Warrandyte.

We have one more dress rehearsal before we open this Friday and the production is looking superb. Each time we meet, the cast find yet more emotions to evoke and I'm so impressed with the whole team and the show we've built.

This is definitely a show you'll want to see - and I promise that afterwards you will be talking about it for some time to come.

I'm glad to say that tickets are selling well and some shows are now almost at capacity. So, don't delay on getting yours. You can book your seats at https://www.trybooking.com/DHJOP

Meet the Cast - Kerry Walsh who plays Laura

Kerry says that It’s been a while between acts fand she’s excited to return to WTC and work with director Grant Purdy again.

Kerry's first role at WTC was in A View From The Bridge, directed by Grant, and although she had no lines, the experience inspired her to continue acting.

Since then, she has appeared as Sergeant Malpole in the comedy Under The Table and on the other side of good as a KAOS agent in Eltham Little Theatre’s production of Get Smart.

Kerry is proud to be part of The Father, a moving portrayal of the impact and complexities that dementia has on those it touches, and hopes audiences connect with this powerful story.

Meet the cast -Lucia Clarke who plays Woman

Lucia says she is thrilled to be back at Warrandyte, after feeling so warmly welcomed last year as Miss Prism in Importance of Being Earnest. The Father is of course a very different play and it has been emotional and inspiring to explore its evergreen themes of devotion, dignity and memory with such a talented cast and crew.

Meet the Cast - Reg Ellery who plays Andrew

Reg returns to his home theatre company, Warrandyte Theatre Company (WTC) playing the lead in this show.

In the last few years Reg has performed at WTC in several productions, Visitors, Love Letters and in Henrik Ibsen’s play The Lady from the Sea.

In 2022 Reg played Headmaster in 1812’s production of The History Boys. And in 2024 Reg played a collection of 4 different minor roles in Highway 1’s production of The Lady in the Van.

Reg says he has found the role of Andrew in this play to be a unique and testing challenge. From Andrew’s point of view, it’s the world around him that has changed not him. As Andrew says “There’s something funny going on.”
