Hereβs a question l get asked quite often. What is better, Sponge filters or internal filters.
They both do the job! What it comes down to is what species of fish do you keep or want to keep. Slow moving fish that prefer calmer water l would definitely recommend a sponge. You can control the flow using a valve if needed. The sponge also has no moving parts and is a simple way of keeping great bacteria you need to keep the aquarium healthy and clean.
Internal filter is great if you keep fish that love a bit of flow or use the spray bar to create a waterfall effect. They do have moving parts and require cleaning during maintenance. But of course preform the same principle as a sponge in creating the good bacteria your aquarium requires to stay clean and healthy. Cost wise they generally both work out to be the same cost. Use what works best for you and your aquarium.
What one do you prefer??
